Its to stop us blocking up the till lane, one wheelchair or scooter stops the tills from running smoothly, a small perk maybe but its for the shops benefit and not just ours.

i agree just 1st time i have seen a shop put that in place, i wonder if they would do the same if you had a stick or crutches thou
  • A bonus when travelling in London, is the discount on underground travel, and your companion can travel on a £2 child's travel card.
"Better still, Railcard holders can save even more. If you hold a Disabled Persons Railcard, you can get an Oyster card and have the Railcard discount entitlement loaded on to it. You can then use Oyster Pay-As-You-Go at adult-rate, but your Off-Peak Oyster daily price cap will be 34 per cent lower than the equivalent adult-rate cap."

    etc

    great thread

I have a Disabled Railcard and also thought my carer could travel round with me using a £2 off peak child travelcard. Not living in london I did not no the facts and was given conflicting advice by DPRC & TFL. The £2 child fare only applies on Nation Rail services within London and NOT the Underground. Thanks for the £20 fine my carer got that I had to pay.

I would try it and see then argue that not only wheelchair users are disabled if they refuse to serve you at the same place as they did when you were in a hired wheelchair, nothing would have changed apart from no wheelchair, you are still at the same level of disability so you should be able to use the same till.

I have wondered the same thing because I was a crutch user for over a decade and I would have gone to the wheelchair signed service point and play holy hell if they refused to serve me there for the same reason as I gave above, not all disabled people use a wheelchair and the wheelchair sign means disability to me,

Just a point on Alton Towers exit passes for disabled people to access the rides via the exit, I found this to be a nightmare. I was in a wheelchair and if you've been to Alton Towers you'll know the exits are frequently long, windy and narrow. Imagine trying to negotiate a path like that against the flow of traffic! It was awful, and extremely off putting. We won't go back for this reason. I've been to Legoland with my son who do the same, but their exits are so much better that it is so simple and convenient.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on disabled persons railcard here. This is copied from the site as to who is eligable:

Are registered as having a visual impairment
Are registered as deaf or use a hearing aid

    Have epilepsy and either:
    • have repeated attacks even though you receive drug treatment; or
    • are currently prohibited from driving because of your epilepsy
Receive Disability Living Allowance at either:
    • the higher rate or lower rate for getting around (mobility); or
    • the higher or middle rate for help with personal care
    House saving Targets:
    £17,700 / £20,000
  • National Express offer half price coach travel to anyone with a local authority public transport pass.

One thing you can get in Wales is free entry to CADW sites (castles, etc). See http://www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=18

"3. If I have a disability do I get free entry to Cadw sites?
Yes. Your companion will also be eligible for free entry to Cadw sites"

Has anyone had this as they tried to charge my grandma the other day

Yes some do, I use a walking stick and stopped to get lunch at M&S FOOD on my way to hospital. A shop assistant came out and opened a till away from the rest with a lower counter and a blue badge sticker above it. Really appreciate the gesture as I just got out of the tube and had to stand up for a while as no one offered their seat. I don't like to be noticed much and create a fuss so kept quite but was shattered when I got to London bridge station. thank you to M&S FOOD staff at London bridge, really appreciated the gesture :T:T:T
Look to me that for a lot of peoples it is not necessary to understand things in order to argue about them ;)
:) Do thanks me if you find my post useful to you :)
