Mike, some years ago I did a personal development course called springboard. My manager sent me and I have to say that at the beginning of that course it was the most uncomfortable I have ever been. 30 women (it was geared to women but there is also one for men) meeting every month for 4 months and doing coursework all about me in between. One of the first things we had to do was write down all of our "headtapes" you know like the one you said - I dont colour outside the lines because I was told off when I was little. Mine was, I dont use my left hand to write anymore because the teacher used to hit me with a ruler (really) and many others I wont share. Once I had worked out why I did or didnt do things I then had to force myself to do things that I would love to do but never did. It was hard but slowly it got easier. Why not sit down and think about all of the reasons why you never got to be what you wanted to be when you were 8 years old. Think about how you would spend your perfect day and you can guarantee that somewhere in there will be a way for you to focus on one thing and aim for it.
    :D

Oh Cheri, I did that too - a great course, made a lasting impact on me. I still remember role playing saying 'no' to someone I had trouble standing up to.. Eek. Shocking story about the teacher .

    Not exactly ambitious, are you?

All I wanted was enough to stop me getting out of the door, oh and for it to last a good few days ;)

I am still finding MG's thread very confusing. It takes time to pick up some of the references! Much of it seems to be about making earrings?

Why not just follow the challenges on her blog instead? Although maybe earring making could be added to your portfolio career :D
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I just seem to be making a pig's ear of everything again. I am sorry if I am a disappointment to the mob.

Doing my best! I've been trying to come on here and tell you tales of my successes, which is why I haven't been here for a while...

:(Mike please don't feel as though you're a disappointment to any of us OR feel that you 'owe' any of us, I promise that none of us do.

Whether we've had depression or not, we all know there is no quick fix to being happy again, depression has deeper roots & it will take time.

Feeling guilty because you're not as happy as you think you should be will only make you feel worse about yourself, it will feed the depression so forget any thoughts of disappointing or owing anyone here, same goes for feeling as though you should only post when you're 'up'. We all pick each other up when needed and whether you realise it or not, you've picked many of us up when we've stumbled. We're all here for each other, good & bad!;)

There's been some lovely posts the last couple of days & they've expressed things far better than my mutterings but at least it shows WE understand, the only one doubting or criticizing you is YOU! Give it up dude....you're outnumbered!:p

Great to see you posting Mike, up or down, we're still here! :)

:grouphug:(that smilie is very dodgy looking!) But hugs to anyone that needs one!

Don't EVER feel you are a disappointment, to me or any of the mob. We love you just the way you are!

As for who am I, the me you know is a different me to my family know and a very different me to the one at work. Oh dear, maybe I have more issues than I thought, spilt personality being one of them.

Hey Maty, just realised I didn't respond to your post about the radiator. That would be very much appreciated!

I think I'm going to need wisdom teeth removed soon :( got a horribly achy jaw and last night I kept waking up with sore teeth and face. While I was visiting my friend I was also ill.... typical! got the bridesmaid dress sorted though, just over 4 weeks till her big day! :j

    : A Silk Purse From a Sow's Ear
    : 1921
    : : Taking up Swift's challenge
: Massachusetts industrialist Arthur D. Little liked a challenge. In 1921, after hearing someone quote Jonathan Swift's adage, "You can't make a silk purse of a sow's ear," Little decided to try to do just that. From a meat-packer he obtained a form of glue made from the skin and gristle of sows' ears. Taking an amount roughly equivalent to one sow's ear, he had it filtered and forced through a spinneret into a mixture of formaldehyde and acetone. The glue emerged as 16 fine, colorless streams that hardened and then combined to form a single composite fiber. Little soaked the fiber in dyed glycerin. Then he wove the resulting thread into cloth on a handloom-and fashioned the cloth into the elegant purse shown here, the kind of item carried by ladies of the Middle Ages.

Mike, we don't need to just hear about your successes, we need to hear about the hiccoughs that will eventually lead to that success. After all, isnt that what friendship (even virtual, in the ether, friendship) is all about.

Dont try reading through the whole of MGs thread, miss out the earring bits if you need to. There are some gems in there if you just speed read. Have a look at just the blog. Post on here and we can work through challenges here too.

The suggestion to post on the home DIY forum about my boiler encouraged me to whip the cover off and have a poke around with a multimeter (I have some experience in this stuff, but twas years ago).

First prognosis looks like the boiler's OK but the thermostat's toast. I can switch it out of the circuit and get the central heating to run, so long as I remember to switch it off manually. Talk about insulation! This place is like a hay box cooker! I ran the heating for an hour this morning and it was still pretty warm six hours later! Woohoo for a warmer Christmas than last year! Mind you, not having a huge plywood covered hole in the wall is a plus too.

So now looking for a cheapo mechanical thermostat to replace the lush wireless one, cos it will save £80. Maybe if I ask Santa nicely...

So it looks less serious than might have been, which makes a change... But if you see a flaming object careering across the night sky, it might be me still holding the installation manual...

And in true ying and yang style, I understand our esteemed government has halved the amount it pays under the mortgage help-you-out-for-a-while scheme. I also received in the post an 'invitation' to attend an interview at the benefits office next week.

    Forward, forward, back, back...

    Cheers for the support, guys.
