Getting money back from cowboy builders

This is a new thread which continues the discussion started in the thread 'Please advise - it's all gone SO wrong' which went above the permitted number of posts on June 28, 2010.

It's still about getting justice against builders and other suppliers who think it's OK to leg it with people's money for work not done, and the legal system which doesn't seem to have any power to stop them doing it repeatedly.

More explanation will go here
