Yeah right, I believe you ;)

Mike, some years ago I did a personal development course called springboard. My manager sent me and I have to say that at the beginning of that course it was the most uncomfortable I have ever been. 30 women (it was geared to women but there is also one for men) meeting every month for 4 months and doing coursework all about me in between. One of the first things we had to do was write down all of our "headtapes" you know like the one you said - I dont colour outside the lines because I was told off when I was little. Mine was, I dont use my left hand to write anymore because the teacher used to hit me with a ruler (really) and many others I wont share. Once I had worked out why I did or didnt do things I then had to force myself to do things that I would love to do but never did. It was hard but slowly it got easier. Why not sit down and think about all of the reasons why you never got to be what you wanted to be when you were 8 years old. Think about how you would spend your perfect day and you can guarantee that somewhere in there will be a way for you to focus on one thing and aim for it.
As for the cleaning etc. Decluttering is always the first step in moving forward, be it materials or emotional clutter. You are right lots of people would pay somebody to do that for them. I like the idea of you offering to do it and taking the stuff to sell on. You could also ask the friend for a reference and to refer you to others.
Get yourself over to MGs blog and have a look at the challenges. You dont have to share them, keep up with them or do them all. Just have a look and do them for you.
Feeling ready for work is just the first step. Take your time.

Wanted to share this. It is one of the poems that I return to time and again. I pin it on my fridge when I feel like I am losing sight of myself.

    Dungeon
He whom I enclose with my name is weeping in this dungeon.
I am ever busy building this wall all around; and as this wall goes up into
the sky day by day I lose sight of my true being in its dark shadow.

I take pride in this great wall, and I plaster it with dust and sand
    lest a least hole should be left in this name;
and for all the care I take I lose sight of my true being.

    That's good stuff. Thanks.

I have been challenging myself to overcome something that causes me a certain amount of anxiety, and so far the world hasn't stopped spinning.

I am still finding MG's thread very confusing. It takes time to pick up some of the references! Much of it seems to be about making earrings?

Mike good to see that you have posted. For most of us 2010 has been a turbulent year. We have all seen some good and happy times, but as always we then have the bad and sad times. We have been behind you with the house issue and look what happened so maybe between us all we can solve the other issues. The euphoria that was abundant on the old thread seems to have waned a little so come on band lets get behind Mike again. Do we have a plumber who may be able to help out here - a couple or three mechanics who would like to be in the spotlight - and how about someone who needs freelancer like Mike? Let's see 2010 end on a good note for Mike and for you all and for me. Not sure what I am after for a better year ahead cos as I get older I realise that actually it becomes harder. Those we love are getting older and some are slipping away. The problem is we are also getting older and one by one (in fact two by two) they leave us behind. So just for the final few months of this year lets have another good time like the DIY SOS period. Sorry have probably depressed you all here, but that just me at the moment - need some time out I think. Take care you all, loves you all like another family member, and will never forget your help when it is needed. Billie xx Com on Happy passed the bubbly!!

I've been thinking about this one and you are right. In my case as I get older the good bits are good and the bad bits seem to be getting more serious. But then I find I care less about the bad stuff. Well, some of the time at least. This may be why old peeps shout at everyone and don't care about the consequences!

You have a great way of putting things and we all love you too. Thank you.

I just seem to be making a pig's ear of everything again. I am sorry if I am a disappointment to the mob.

Doing my best! I've been trying to come on here and tell you tales of my successes, which is why I haven't been here for a while...
