Wow! Loved the house I can't believe the difference they made in such a short time! I hope you and your boys had a wonderful Christmas there this year Mike, and am glad to have helped in a teeny tiny way to make it happen by sending my e-mail to the programme.0

Wow, just watched the programme. I hadn't been aware of your situation before (so much on here to try and keep up with!), but I am so pleased - for you, Mike, and for all of you that pitched in and helped whether in person on the day or here supporting.
What a fantastic result. It is just amazing when people get together, they can change lives. Martin's website has done so much to improve people's situations, but this is absolutely my favourite so far. This is real, physical transformation, initiated by strangers and completed by friends.
It's wonderful, simply wonderful. Well done all.0 -
I am a long-time lurker on MSE and have followed Mike's story from the beginning.. after watching the long-awaited DIY SOS programme last night, I just had to come out of lurkdom to congratulate everyone involved! What an absolutely fantastic outcome for you and your sons Mike, and I hope that you will have many many happy years in your beautiful house.0

Thanks Southernbelle for the PM about the programme. I was working last night but able to get it on Sky +. I caught the beginning before I went to work - My god, I remember those pictures from the original thread and seeing it on TV made it even more shocking!
Can't wait til later and I have time to watch it all (undisturbed with a box of tissues) and see the reveal.
I continue to be amazed at the strength of human character and the amazing things that can be achieved when people get together to make things happen.
Communities can be found and sometimes they are behind a computer screen but I am so glad that you found it, Mike. It has been the beginning of the journey from lost to found for you.

Congratulations to Mike and the boys and I hope your "new" house will bring you a new start and new fortunes.
Watching the programme, it became obvious very soon that the house was a money pit and that the first builder not only realised that he had possibly bitten off more than he could chew, but that the cost of the work would be far,far higher than had been estimated. He probably just gave up and kept the money that had been forwarded to him. Naughty! There were so many major structural faults that it seemed like everything became a huge task. Luckily the DIY SOS team had all the local tradespeople helping out and were able to overcome the problems.
A great programme and a great outcome. Well done everyone who made a dream come true.....

:T Watched the show last night at a friends after spotting the sticky on the boards and sobbed my way through most of it, don't think she could understand quite why I found it so emotional though I did try to explain! Thanks SB for the PM too received this morning which brought me to the thread to add my HUGE congrats to you and the boys Mike on a nightmare situation survived and made right. Made more than just right - made amazing, I loved the house especially the kitchen (drool..) and the conservatory/outside space. I hope it is as good to live in as it looks on screen.
Mike's Mob did a wonderful job of showing the world that there are good spirited people out there and you should all be puffed up with pride for months - you are truly fabulous people. (((hug)))
Your letter of thanks was very moving Mike and I also think it is a very good idea to generate another round of emails to the DIY SOS team - to say thank you this time! After all this is the kind of ammo the production team need to support the success of their show and keep it on screen/them in jobs (deservedly).

I totally agree with you FeeFee - I don't think it should be underestimated just what a huge job this was and thank heavens the BBC took it on otherwise the consequences could have been dire.
Well done DIY SOS and all who made it possible.
