Wow, what a programme! I read Mikes plight some time ago and just happened to spot the post about tonight's programme. What a fantastic looking house at the end of all the hard work.

Just want to say that you are all fantastic, it restores one's faith in human nature.

To Mike - you must be so proud of your sons, they are lovely boys. I wish you all love and hope you enjoy your home, and enjoy spending time with each other.

  • Agree with other posters on here, the law needs changing so these shyster builders and fraudsters cannot run off with peoples money, and then re-appear still trading a few months later under a new name. Cowboy Builders on C5 has cited many similar cases to Mike's. A fraudster should not be able to put assets into the names of other family members, these should be available in a court judgement. Anyway, today is time to enjoy the great result achieved. Your fantastic house has inspired me to do a bit of work on mine

SB, thanks for the PM, I had the programme earmarked to watch but may well have missed it without the reminder - but can I bill you for the numerous tissues I got through:D:D

Mike, hope that was the start of a fantastic new life for you and your lovely boys, they're a credit to you.

Mikes Mob, what a fantastic bunch of people you are:A

:) The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time :)
  • I don't usually watch this programme and stumbled across it in the background missed the first 5 minutes and my interest piqued when I saw what I thought was MSE forum so immediately googled it and came across the forum posts.

After reading Mikes first post I was hooked to the show and really rooting for him.

It really restored my faith in human nature, and was a nice bookend to the year. Just goes to show there are nice, genuine, caring people out there, even if they happen to be complete strangers.

Although they occasionally have deserving people on DIY SOS most of the people seem to be witless muppets who have decided to rip out their kitchen, boiler, wiring to "DIY" it and then given up halfway through even attempting to fix it expecting to get it done for them for free by making stupid sob video!

This obviously wasn't the case with Mike.

From what i have briefly read he was honest and humble. He knew he had made a mistake paying up front. Bared his soul and situation to the world. Had also done a lot of work trying to claw his way back from what must of been a nightmare situation.

That must of been the highest viewing figures they have ever had for that show. This story will definitely make the national press. Although I am not too sure Stephen Spielberg will be rushing to sign it up as someone said - it's not The Social Network in terms of impact!

I see it as a win for evryone involved. Mike, The BBC, MSE and the forumites.

I know that schadenfreude is not particularly nice but the builder who stole and nearly killed this guy is a deserving candidate. I truly hope this is his John Leslie, Michael Barrymore moment and no one in their right mind ever employs him again.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Emergency buy as I sat on mine getting into the car and broke them. And you can't drive to the other side of the country in June without your sunglasses!

I had to drive down from the midlands with my heater on all the way to stop Satan over heating on what must have been the hottest day of the summer!

I was half the woman I was when I left home by the time I got to Littlehampton. Made a nice paddling pool in my footwell though! lol

Good night SB and sleep well.

Good night Mike (and the boys), sleep well too.

Nicc, I think the sunglasses were fab , you looked like a true star and you made all the right noises at all the right times, right on cue! Unlike someone outside the chinese restaurant we ate at on the Saturday night! ;)

Billie, hope the secret thing goes well for you.

    Wow!

I started reading Mike's original thread earlier in the year when I was signed off work with depression. Can't believe I then wandered away from it and missed all the excitement!!!

I am so pleased that this happened to you Mike and well done to all the MSErs that got behind the campaign to get on the programme, gave support and helped out on the transformation itself.

I don't often watch DIY SOS but it came on tonight and as soon as it started, I shouted out - I know about him, I've read his thread! I had to come back tonight and read the rest of it through (although I might have skimmed a bit - what an epic).

I hope that you have many happy years ahead in your house Mike.

    All the best
