Hear hear..I missed the first 5 mins of DIY SOS but will catch up on Iplayer and realised that the house was Mike's house, I decided to log onto MSE and spotted a PM from SB telling me about the show, I hadn't realised I had missed MSE so much so I shall be posting here a bit more and will be keeping up to date with everyone and with Mike and his new life.

Well done to SB and everyone else - I was sorry that I couldn't be in Littlehampton with the rest of Mike's Mob but I can honestly say they did MSE proud.:j

Very wrong, seems like a bollox system. Ripping people off if you are a trade which equates to THEFT, FRAUD, DECEPTION and ABUSE seems to be a consequence free CRIME for the people who commit such thoroughly immoral acts.

You see it time after time on programs like Cowboy Builders and Rogue Traders and they just seem to get away with it.

The law needs to change and it needs someone with real clout?!! behind it who can make laws change.

I got fined once for cycling along an empty beach promenade perhaps 10 metres wide. Didn't see the signs. Got stopped by a beach warden and a PCSO. Told them I didn't see the signs, apologised, pointed out it was empty and doing no harm. Asked my name and address and having nothing to hide and being an honest person, told the truth.

Heard nothing about it. 6 months later I got a court summons. Turned up explained the situation to what I thought would be reasonable and rational people, realising no one was at any risk of harm, it was an accident i missed the sign.

They didn't want to know. Charged me £70 + £50 "costs" + £15 "victim surcharge". They wanted the money there and then and I said that I couldn't pay, which was true and I thought it was a joke.

I offered them £1 a week - they said the minimum I had to pay was £5 a week - or the fine would be increased or I could face a stay in prison if I refused to pay - no joke!!

I could easily have cycled past these people or given a false name and address but had nothing to hide and didn't know I was committing a "crime"!!

Sorry that is long winded - my point is I had to repay the "court / council" the full amount at the lowest I could £5 a week in 27 weeks - 6 months.

Why isn't the law the same for shysters who rip people off, steal from them and actually harm them - the same?

SW, you hit the nail square on the head! It is and has been so frustrating with all that Mike has done to try to get his dosh back. We'd all like to be able to help Mike on the legal side but honestly we don't really know where to go, Mike seems to have covered most bases already.

I think what we've all prayed for is that some wonderful solicitor would happen across "our" thread and take the gauntlet that's so obviously lying on the floor and run with it all the way to the top.

The civil justice system in this country is so pants it's not even funny.

Anyone have any suggestions on how we can get the system changed please feel free to speak up.

Maybe now is the time to mass lobby Vince Cable. Maybe we could all email him with an iplayer link to the programme. We have the support, I mean look at all the pages of well wishes and support in just these last few hours!

We can change the world even if it is one dodgy builder at a time!

"Never have so many faught for so few for so long!"

No Sb it's not Churchill it's me! lol

Just one question - how did you stay alive for those 2.5 years? That surely deserves a hollywood blockbuster in itself?

Just so happy you got good support here....really happy now where is the youtube link???

  • I watched the program tonight and although I hadn't come across the thread before i recognised the forum from the cutshots. I think everyone involved in helping mike should give themselves a bloody huge pat on the back because he obviously deserved it. Yet another reason to just love this forum and its members. Well done all :)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Emergency buy as I sat on mine getting into the car and broke them. And you can't drive to the other side of the country in June without your sunglasses! They were the only ones in a certain supermarket! (I don't know what they looked like as my hands were covering my face!)
