Why do people be nasty to newbies?

Just wondering why some people feel the need to post nasty comments when newbies post on here. It's the only forum I've known to be like this, most others have a load of posts welcoming the new person to the forum. Surely everyone was in the same boat at some point, saw Martin Lewis on the TV, went onto this website looking for advice, saw the forum and posted. There's no need for it, if you can't help someone, why bother posting at all. BTW I'm not talking about on here or DT, you expect a bit of debate or banter on those two boards, but on the genuine moneysaving etc part.
It's not everyone, most people on here I've found to be really friendly and helpful, but some have to spoil it for the rest.

Everyone I know wants to be a millionaire.
Not me, I want to be a billionaire.

Some newbies are obvious AE on the windup but they are relatively rare. On the whole, people are nice to newbies but when someone is not, it does stand out.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

Can you post links to some examples? The only time I've noticed newbies getting a hard time is when it's really obvious they are AE on a wind up mission.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Have you been PPR'd again!! :rotfl:;):rotfl::D;):smileyhea0 -
Well I think its because there are lots of members who are very experienced and know lots in their field, and sometimes get annoyed at people who join MSE. They then only post onces asking a questions (Without looking at previous threads or ask silly question), then continue their post until they get an answer and never come back off.
Most newbies join because they need help, however most don't come back to help others on this site. It should be a site where you come for advice/help but also provide it to other if you have experience:D
I personaly do find it annoying and if a member has like 20odd posts I'm more likely to spend more time on solving their issue:) then someone who has 1 post and will dissapear soon and won't thank you atall"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0 -

Speaking for myself, I haven't noticed you being unpleasant in any of your incarnations. Dunno about windups tho'....Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
On the Praise, Vent & Warings & Consumer Rights boards people can be [STRIKE]nasty [/STRIKE] intolerant to newbies - some are trolls but some do just sign up to ask a genuine question, albeit sometimes daft questions:)The shinbone is a device for finding furniture in a dark room.:TBig thanks to all competition posters:T0
