206's hold their value well. I've seen older 1998/99 ones go for 2K+0

I did try to sell it last year for £2000, then £1800, but I guess now I should have gone a bit lower..
I am going to waste no more money on it, it will go on eBay later today on auction with a description of the problem and go from there.. who wants to guess how much I'll get?9/70lbs to lose0 -

hahah - have you seen the price of bus tickets?!
i'll save a bit of dosh not having a car now9/70lbs to lose0 -
For anyone else who needs this info later on;
Local accident repair garage quoted me:
£40 to collect car.
£180 to strip/diagnose if it's damaged the engine.
£800 to fix if it has damaged it.
I told him what type of 206 it is and he said that it's coming up as an 'Interference Engine' which means that it's 'most likely' to be damaged. 1.6 - 2001 - 16valve.
It's on eBay now. Fingers crossed I get a good price for it and can lick my wounds.9/70lbs to lose0 -
GEEGEE8,
You could try my route, look in the yellow pages for a TA camp, they've usually a REME workshops attatched for the vehicles, & go & speak to the workshop manager, ask if anyone would like to make a few quid. (I'm paying £200 all in) Even if you know anyone in the TA who can ask for you.
Might save you a couple hundred.0 -

buy the enigne for the £300 delivered to the garage of your choice and then get the car there and get the engine swapped over?
get quotes from local garages to tow your car to them and swap engine over (changing cambelt and associated parts before fitting engine).
it looks as if this will be your cheapest option. then take you old engine to the scrap metal dealer and weigh it in for a few quid in return.
Had a mate who killed his engine on a landy he brought a second hand engine. Manged to sell all the bits off his old one for more than the new engine0 -
I do sympathise but the cam belt is a part which does need changing after a certain amount of time. You will know for next time, this is been a very expensive lesson.
You could always trade it in for a late 90's OHV Fiesta, no cam belts to worry about on them. Then just get something better when you can afford to.
Also £400 for bushes seems on the steep side.0 -

I reckon you might be able to get £500 if you're lucky for it, and for that you can get a tempory banger to keep you going or even just hire a car for your interview
I think you've done the right thing selling it, I sold my Corsa when the head gasket went - it just wasn't worth the hassle.0 -
All my prices are from a decent garage, not a main dealer tho, so their labour rate will be higher.
I'm happy to do without a car for now. It's on eBay and got to £310 within 4 hrs, so I might get a decent enough amount for it.
It's my own fault. I had a service late last year and he said about the cambelt and that there is no record of it being done. He told me what would happen if it went, but I just didn't think it would. I was going to get it done in the next service later in the year
Car had done 104,000 miles, so I get it was just waiting to twang.9/70lbs to lose0 -

I don't think I want a car for the time being. I seem to have spent all my spare cash on this car over the last 18 months. It's left me no room to save for a better car.
I can manage without for now, and save up the £500 and add to it as soon as I get a job.
I could hire a car for the interview, I just don't know if I'll have a car in a months time when I need to start. Too much of a risk really.9/70lbs to lose0
