£400 for new bushes and potentially £1000 on fixing the cam & all other associated bits, so possibly £1400 on a car that you value at £1500... If it was me I would cut my losses and see if someone on ebay wants it and buy something else

 I'm actually crying.. what a !!!!!! year it's been.. I got made redundant 6 weeks ago, so no chance of fixing it, not that it would be worth it anyway.

Had a job interview on weds too, can't get there by public transport..

REALLY feeling sorry for myself now.

Thanks for the help everyone.. What do I do with the car now?

OR, Haynes Workshop Manual and DIY perhaps with a friends help, with a second-hand (skimmed) head. Maybe £180ish all-in.

I don't have any mechanically minded friends no.. All my family live down south, we have a family friend that is a mechanic that may have been able to help, but the car won't even run and I doubt he would travel up here..

I have my boyfriend that could help me, but I just don't see that I can do it.. I have no tools or anything.. sorry to make excuses..

If you can't you can't but it might just be worth asking around, swapping a head even on a (basic) modern car is not rocket science to someone
familiar with cars. Best of Luck.

Everyone is overlooking the fact the piston crowns may also be damaged which means new pistons.

Easiest cheapest option is a second hand engine from a scrappies.

Does it make any difference the speed I was going?

A car infront indicated at the last minute and I had to stop quickly, I then tried to set off in 4th gear when going at about 25mph, the car struggled and then belt went..
