Yep. Do absolutely nothing atall. Don't close any accounts. Don't apply for any new ones. Continue clearing your balances in full. Don't move. Don't change employer. Don't change bank.
Underwriters love to see stability - the more an applicant can demonstrate themselves as someone able to maintain the status quo the more comfortable they will be lending to them.
So do that. Show them just how stable you are and how well you can maintain the status quo:beer:

Maybe a bit too late. Recently applied for the Santander switch, for the £100 and interest free OD.
Currently have a fairly high balance on my Lloyds OD so having it intrest free for a year whilst I clear it would be a big boost.
Saying that they haven't got back to me yet.
Might also be worth adding that I got the Initial even though their own "pre-checker" said I would be unlikely to qualify for any products.0 -
Santander? Are you kidding?
Search the forum and Google for "Santander Complaint".
Then think again. There aren't any words I can use uncensored here to accurately describe how shameful and shabby that operating they call a "bank" is.
You'll regret it. Stay putCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Santander is an enormous bank. For every person complaining about them there are at least dozens more who are perfectly happy - plus they are only getting better and better at sorting out any major errors etc. they've had. I've had an account with them since Alliance and Leicester and have never had a single problem - even during the switchover.
While it's good to give a warning I don't think the blanket "don't even consider them!" warnings are really justified any more.0 -

Yeah, I have seen the complaints. But then again I see complains about Lloyds, Who I have been with for about 5 years and I've never had any issues and always found them helpful and quick.
I know 2 people who bank with Santander. 1 has done for years (sinse Abbey National) and never had an issue and 1 who used the online switcher as I am doing and again, no issues. no missed DD's or anything0 -
Sorry to butt in, but I have been with Santander for over 2 years now and have never had any issues with them whatsoever. I did, however, have massive problems with Natwest after the breakup of my marriage (joint account with my ex husband). IMHO, Santander have been so much better than Natwest. I know they get bad press but so far so good as far as my dealings with them go!£170/£12,000
A long way to go but enjoying the challenge!0 -
Well, I've shared my opinion.

I too have a friend whose with santander he's been with them years since abbey national. I asked him afew months ago when i was looking at different current accounts and he didn't have a bad word to say about them. Santander does have a very bad reputation on this forum many would say rightly so. But calum is right and one persons experience doesn't mean it will happen to everyone.0

I think a small percentage of Santander's customer base complain on these boards - a large percentage seem pretty happy. The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0
