  • I too have a friend whose with santander he's been with them years since abbey national. I asked him afew months ago when i was looking at different current accounts and he didn't have a bad word to say about them. Santander does have a very bad reputation on this forum many would say rightly so. But calum is right and one persons experience doesn't mean it will happen to everyone.

I tend to think it's the vocal minority.

people are quick to speak up when something is wrong but not so quick when everything is running fine.

We have had reports of them doing this in the past, yes.

I think barclaycard pulling natwest stunt. It appears they have cancelled my account today for some reason. Do they normally send a card and pin then tell you too naff off?

Is your credit file in order because Barclaycard never cancelled my card after they sent it out.

My credit file is perfect except for a CCJ from 5 and half years ago.

They said it normal now to check new applications as part of there new process or something so she told me anyway.

They just confirmed my name address DOB and asked me to confirm some details from my credit file.

They never did any of that with me after they sent the card but that was nearly a year now so maybe they have changed their policy. I also have no adverse information on my credit file.

I am glad that you have it sorted now and hope that there are no more problems.

Did they offer the 6.9% APR for the life of any balance transfers as well ?

They did yes which is good. I was going to transfer my bit of balance from vanquis but I dont think vanquis allow it.

I have heard that it is very hard to transfer from a Vanquis card.

Just in case anyone's interested to know OH applied for Nationwide Credit Card and was approved for £2,800 limit with 15.9% APR (after 17 month 0%).

He has two satisfied defaults on his credit file from 11/2006 and 05/2007, as well as a spate of missed payments and arrangements to pay from 4 to 6 years ago.

No missed or late payments in the last four years though and currently owes £0 and total credit limits (exposure to credit) is 4.5%.

So, it seems Nationwide are sympathetic to applicants with very old adverse data :o

  • Quick update on my journey back to normality!

    - BR April 2008
    - Discharged April 2009
    - IPA completed Jun 2011
..everything on file shows as it should

    Credit lines:
    - Three 24 month contract
    - Capital One CC £1400 limit
    - Flybe CC £1500 limit

Everything paid in full each month, all greens on the file since the cleanup ..just a Barclays basic account

I've been approved for Creation Purchases card (0% for 9 months) with £5k limit (same groups as Flybe card aren't they?).

So I've now got nearly £8k available credit but still no 'real' current account - madness!
