More likely the presence of a new Barclaycard. Applying for one account immediately after having opened another does suggest debt stress or frivolous applications.

I was approved for a Progress despite a Classic Capital One card being written into a BR order 2 1/2 years prior.

in a way I'm glad they said no. I'm going wait another 6 months and try for natwest card as current acc with them. I spoke to an advisor about 3 months ago and they said having a CCJ wasn't an instant decline but didn't apply to them coz a direct debit took me a few pounds over my overdraft for 24 hours at the start of this month so I applied with barclays instead

I've been looking through a lot of earlier posts on this thread about behavioural scores. at the moment most of my direct debits come out of my Natwest savings account. Also my tax credits get paid into the same account and I'm self employed so I put my own wages in my bank. on average around £2000 is credited into my accounts each month but because the DDs come out of the savings acc that is the one that has the most credits. I only put £1800 in the current acc in last 4 months. I'm now in the process of changing all my DD details so that everything goes in and out of the current acc only as I realise that to increase my behavioural score I need larger sums going in to my current acc and not to miss any payments etc. I went into Natwest today and asked about my internal score and it is zero as I have a business bank account. they even showed me the screen and said I'd have to ask next time I spoke with business banking as only they can see it. Due to the old CCJ I'm used to dealing in cash most of the time so don't really put much into my business acc as I would have to pay fees and when I pay myself I just put it straight into my savings acc for bills or curr acc for personal spends. it looks like I'm going to have to completely change the way I run my accs. putting my wages into my business account to transfer across to my current acc and then paying all bills and DDs from the current acc. I'm not trying to hide anything so the only disadvantage for me in doing this are the business acc fees that will be incurred

Credit scoring systems used by banks vary and it may be possible that some decline if you have recently opened a similar account. However, generally if you apply for more than 3 types of credit in a 6 month period it will negatively affect your credit score but again this depends on the system the provider is using and what type of credit you are applying for i.e. prime or not.
Don't thank me, thank my post :T

Yay, I just got the letter that I've been approved for a Cap One progress card :D

Does this mean I have to close the high interest Cap One card down immediately?

(I may be able to say bye bye to Granite.. woohooo)

    No, you can keep both.

Capital One have no gripes about you holding both simultaneously, provided they're kept within their terms, of course :o

    Well done!

i have just been accepted for an aqua card which is really good news for me as i wanted to get one so that i could hire a car in the usa when i go on holiday as none of them take cash/debit cards. also managed to get a new contract montly with vodaphone which i thought i would not get as i was led to beelieve that they where one of the harder networks to get with

yes vodafone are usually really fussy. when I applied through CPW 3 was easiest to get, O2 and orange often asked for a deposit for bad credit. vodafone was always a straight no for me

I read on this forum that cash withdrawals (from current accounts) can reduce your 'internal score' with the bank.

If I remember correctly, somebody mentioned that their HSBC score increased due to not making any withdrawals at the ATM or counter.

Does anybody have any knowledge of this?

    Many thanks

    That doesn't sound remotely right.

Actively using your account and paying in large amounts of money (i.e. salary) all help it increase (and avoiding the overdraft).

The only thing I can think of is they didn't withdraw money at all, so left a higher balance in there than normal?
