  • Congratulations!

What'd you go for? I hope you've been clever and went for one that's got a small engine and is also fuel efficient! My insurance is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and all my quotes so far have gone up since last year! Not happy Grrrrrr!!

I'm definitely off the sub-prime Market now, having just been accepted for a Nationwide Visa. £2,000 limit. And as they've also offered me a new FlexAccount with £1,000 OD, and also an £8,000 loan at 6.3% I can now leave Lloyds TSB because of reasons already documented at length ;-)
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I got a 51 Plate (2002 - very late model) Peugeot 306. 2.0 HDi, 70K on the clock, full dealer service history. Just did about 100 miles driving around Devon and Somerset today and used about 1/6th - 1/7th of a tank so seems efficient enough :o

Much prefer driving a big engined diesel chugger to a tiny little 1.2L Petrol car like my instructor had. Can't stall it for love nor money! Will pull off in second on torque alone, and much better for overtaking on the Motorway although having said that it wasn't a fast motorway driving day today as the weather was simply hideous. Chucking it down, so kept around 60 most of the journey, weather permitting. No doubt that helped the economy :D

Can't beat a diesel for economy, especially with the bigger engine sizes. :)

You're right about engine sizes - just watching top gear when they had the Skoda Roomster, Alfa Romeo Mito, and Toyota IQ, the Diesel Roomster cost more in fuel for the same journey than the Petrol Mito or IQ because it was so small engined as Jezza put it "you have to mash your foot to the floor just to do 20".

No such problem with a 2.0 :o No need to change down for hills, either. Love the torque of a decent well refined tractor diesel engine :)

EDIT: Oh, and congrats on your success with Nationwide! Work well done

I requested a £750 limit from Sygma, they said no due to company criteria (sending me the same stupid automated letter as before). So I enclosed it and sent it back saying I again request £750 and close it if not, so they closed it! No great loss as I only ever seem to use Halifax nowadays to get the £5 in months I spend £300. Just thought proof of managing a £750 limit would look better in the future, but it was not to be!

Still have Cap1 purely for Equifax alerts. They raised me to £350 after I requested more under the DPA. Halifax with £1,350 and Aqua with 1k :D. Natwest with £350 that I've just left going for now, as it was only opened a few months ago I don't want to close it already.

In terms of Accounts, Halifax credit scored and accepted me for a 2nd Reward Current Account... it then disappeared from Online Banking and hasn't reappeared, so I'm assuming they have revoked it due to the 1 each rule....

 to the Sygma... Do they have retention at all? Maybe if you called them they could have been persuaded? I'm trying to decide the fate of mine - but as you can have several of their cards, I'm guessing they'd encourage to apply for a different one to get new offers. Also, it was new to me that the Creation has two types now (Purchase/Balance Transfer).

Cap1 keeps changing their cards, and at one of the last iterations, they moved the Equifax service exclusive to the World mastercard. If that wasn't bad enough, there seem to be no more free credit reports. I used none this year, just rolled over, and the price is now £5.99  Back to the statutory ones...

By the way, I'm completely out of the sub-prime now after 3 years, except for the Capital one classic :p To this effect, Aqua sent me a mail to apply :D

My mailings are a bit out of touch - although I got a few offers from Tesco, the last one was a weird one, quite different than on the web site - it had 13 months 0% purchases and balance transfers (like the RBS/Natwest Platinum), BUT the BT fee was 3.9% :p
    Enjoy the silence...

RE: Sygma I called up to see if I had any offers on my accounts but they said no, she said I should apply for a Creation card as that's what they're focusing offers on at the moment...

Although after buying my car I'll be in the market for a Barclaycard BT card in a little while... :p

I doubt it, I was stuck on £200 since I had it, and they never raised it even after I sent documents in. They just didn't seem to like me :rotfl:

Wow, that's going in November when my Equifax is due to be renewed then!

Well done :) I'm getting rid of Cap1 in a few months it looks like (not that I ever use it) so I'll have the Halifax & Aqua ones plus Natpest. Tesco won't accept me... the question on "how many other cards do you hold" and my answer with 5 (along with my other data) wasn't going down too well!! After answering that I don't get any further! By the looks of it, they never bother to search me either... every little helps in cutting their costs!
