what was the time scale between getting the vanquis and barclay card please?

Judging by the posters postings (click poster name then view previous posts) I'd say they had Vanquis for about 2 years.

I would suggest the MyWorld card. Oh. Wait. SSL errors. Hmm...

Just wanted to say Thank You, I've just been accepted for Maximiles as the MyWorld site isn't working....

Vanquis now heading for the bin, but not till I've rang them to cancel as they wouldn't lower my apr or increase my limit last week, now I've got both.

    Excellent well done! :o

Finally being rid of Vanquis is a great feeling to have, eh?

    Brief summary of my story....

Got Vanquis in May 2009 with £250 limit. At that point there were 2 defaults and 2 CCJs on my file along with a handful of late payments.

Got a Capital One card in August 2010 (after applying every 6 months without success) with a £100 limit.

Vanquis upped my limit to £500 the month after all the defaults and CCJs disappeared from my files (around late August 2010)

Aqua (again after multiple applications) accepted me with £750 two weeks ago.

Barclaycard accepted me with £1200 last night. I believe this is due to my going a whole year with no missed payments on any credit account (was only my mobile contract that I had had trouble with).

Sygma still don't want to know me, nor do any other mainstream lender. I'll give that another year.

I now plan to consolidate my 4 credit cards by getting rid of Vanquis and Capital One (I would prefer to stay with Cap 1 but with a £100 limit it's pointless). I'll keep Aqua with nothing on it for emergencies (car repairs mainly as I can't be without a car for work).

The Barclaycard will be my main card which I will transfer Vanquis onto and use it for every day purchases.

    I also bank with Barclays.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

After a year apply for one of barclaycards other cards.

I was rejected for an aqua card and a standard bank account with crapwest this week. (I currently have a step account that has been open and running since 2002!).

I also have a crapone and vanquis card that have been running perfectly for a year, but I also have many old defaults from 2007/2008 on my file.

I am returning to study as a mature student later in the year and I was hoping to qualify for full account now which I could then switch to a student account later on. (because of the lfree overdraft and other freebies on offer)......... am I in fantasy land with that idea?

I don't actually need a full account with any credit, I'm just trying to rebuild with the idea of having a clean history when I graduate in 4 years time.

Does the step account appear on your credit file?

Yes it does, well certainly on the online equifax version. Listed under credit agreements as 'current account from natwest bank current accounts'.

Credit limit is listed as 0 though, since I obviously don't have an O/D.
