    Natpest are a nightmare

Lol - I must be the only person who thinks they're brill! Then again, I left A&L to bank with them, so things could only get better :D

Helpful tips wanted - I'm now back on the electoral register, recently had my CapOne account (5months of history) limit raised, have mobile phone and broadband accounts with 3 and am in my second year of using Cashplus Creditbuilder. What credit card would be a good next step in say, 3-4 months time? I don't fancy Vanquis as they rejected me after it tok me 4+ months to get an answer out of them. I have one (satisfied) default from 2006.

I've not had any problems with Natwest either and like the fact that Actionline will always give answers if needed.
What type of Natwest account do you have? If a normal current account why not ask in branch for a credit card in around 6-7 months time. This gives you a years history with Cap one and brings your default to 4+ years.
I have 2 UNSATISFIED defaults and still got one with no problems.
Give it a try and good luck

    Good luck with Halifax!

Yes I am holding out hope of being approved for an HSBC account on April Fools Day :)

I will have had 36 months flawless credit history then. I will also apply in branch and bring along my Equifax credit report (which doesn't show any of the adverse history that Experian does ;) ) - so if the system does say no or maybe, the Branch manager can look at my "gleaming" Equifax file and override the decision :T

    Or so I've convinced myself.

They will not look at a print out of your credit file in branch, been there and read the book! Also, they do not use equifax as their primary search, they use Experian and call Credit.

Pointless excercise appealing if you only have one of the 3 credit files, you'd be best taking all 3 - I did and still they ignored them and told me to write to customer relations.

But then my credit file does have a few problems like defaults and gone aways

    * I did eventually get my account after writing to customer relations

Yes they do on the 2nd monday of the month.
Thanks :D So they'd have updated it from what I saw Saturday?! Still probably £100 though as I've done nothing special in those few days! I'll login in a bit and have a look :) I'll remember to login every 2nd Tuesday just to make sure it's updated then :) (Edit: Not that I don't believe you, just to make sure I'm seeing the updated limit, their systems seem to be ultra delayed at time, like when they 'lost' my money!)

Haha! When I was younger I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread, unfortunately the really helpful member of staff left and they've just been generally shocking since I've turned 18!

No point me repeating what Brian said, think that'll work well :) Was pretty much the same situation for me (but without the default, I just had no history). Got Aqua (and Vanquis who then changed their mind!) after waiting for nearly a years history

Received an email this morning from Totally Money. They have an exclusive offer with Capital One Classic. You can get 0% on purchases on the card until 1 November 2010. It's not much but for a card with a standard APR of 34.9% it is quite attractive.

I opened my Step account around 6 yrs ago, used and ran it well expecting an 'upgrade' but got told in branch that step does absolutely nothing for 'internal scoring' so full credit search would be needed to get a full account. Applied first time and got declined but reapplied in Aug 08 and accepted. Had 3 defaults but all over 3yrs old. Ran well for around a year then got the credit card in branch, had limit increased after 6 months.
Seriously, try for a current plus :D

Mhh - think I'll wait a few months to let some of the recent searches drop off my history, apply for Aqua and try for a full account in the spring (before I move house again) :o

It's on the website as well, and your link may be personalised, so watch out :)

That seems to mean they feel they need more customers, I suspect maybe a cashback option is coming up as well (none on topcashback though). That could be an easier way to bag a few quids more than not paying interest on a £200 limit if that's what you are eligible for...
    Enjoy the silence...
