I got declined outright, that was probably one of the reasons, so I'll make sure to appeal it next time. I didn't register as soon as I was allowed (16), because it's pretty useless until you're 18, I'll definitely challenge it next time though and ensure I put that I only just joined the ER at 18, despite living there for 3 years before :). When you say call and speak to them, can you do this before they've made a decision? So as soon as it says online it's been referred then you phone up and say? To save writing a letter etc

    Doubt it.

I got a creation card accepted immediately online.

BTW, does anyone know if current account search weigh roughly the same or very differently as credit card searches? I've been declined for a new current account after I got the offer and sent back ID, and would like to plan ahead :)

Can they use other bank statements for desirable/undesirable spending patterns as opposed to name/address confirmation? Maybe I don't want to send credit card/bank account statements or phone bills in the future ;)

Was this RBS / Natwest by any chance?

And yes the two types of search weigh the same.

I always send a council tax bill if they ask for proof of address as I don't like the idea they could judge me on my spending habits if they wanted to.

That and I don't get paper bank statements anyway but you know :o

Was that an instant approval or referral?

I ask as my friend applied for a Silver card and was turned down at underwriting due to the ER not matching up.

And although my credit record is very clean with no missed payments or anything adverse at all, and good ratios of income to debt, it is very short. At 26 years old, I only have about 2 years of credit history - never been a big fan of credit.

I was declined outright (not even referred) for a Flybe about 9 months ago, though I think this was due to a lack of credit history more than anything else?

    Strange.

This is a question for sutton111 or anyone who recently got an HSBC account.

Mine was opened on 30 June and when I finally got access to internet banking saw there was an option on the left hand menu for overdrafts. However it said something like I could not apply for one at the time.

Now I have realised this option lets me apply for an overdraft up to £5000. When did you get that option working? Does it mean I am eligible for an overdraft?

I was thinking about applying for a small one, maybe £100, but don't really want to be credit searched.

i use hsbc too, they will search you. best to click apply and see what it says.

i applied and got a £500 one easily enough, but like you say at first it had a message saying "sorry you are not eligible for an overdraft please ring XXX" then after 6 months it gave me the options (step 1 of 4) and I went through it, was referred and then a cso called to say accepted.

it is the indian call centre that deals with overdrafts, well it was with mine.

Just felt like having a rant about Lloyds TSB

Went to take out some cash for the pub on Friday only to be told by the cashpoint to call my card issuer. Tried another, same result. Called bank and was told "No sir you don't have a card on that account". Explain that I did and was holding it in my hand and had worked fine until then.

Ended up having to escalate the call to a team leader only to be told that the card had been "Auto Cancelled" at 11:00PM on Thursday. When asked why, he couldn't say (internal security breach?). He confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the account. So passed me to another team who issued a new card, which has arrived today. Assured by the Bank that the replacement would be a gold card, it is not. However my account is still a gold account and I paid the fee on 1st Aug.

Arrgh! Can't wait until April Fools Day when I can finally bag myself an HSBC Current Account. (the date on which I'll have had 36 months flawless credit history :D )

I've just tried £100 and computer said no... :(

Better wait till the account is 6 months old and I've got some internal score.

Just got all my card an cheque book etc. through from my NatWest current account :j YAY! Card is blue though so I am assuming that it is a card that need full authorisation as all my friends ones are purple. Also I asked for an overdraft facility but there has been no mention of it. I assume that this means that I haven't got one?
