If I had a problem, I wouldn't have been helping you in the first place.
Ask questions? That's fine, but it's more important that you answer mine. It is also important that you describe with exactness the sequence of events.
In this way we can diagnose the problem. I had to ask you the same question three times before you gave me the most cursory of answers.
Nevertheless I still supplied you with all of the tools to complete the job. Not much else I can do for you. The PEBKAC.
As to you not being 'Techhy' ... seems that you are.0 -
I am really not techhy at all, I don't really know any other way to describe to you that I put the disk in, and it doesn't do anything, I'm not giving you cursory answers, maybe you don't have much patience? but listen thanks for your help, I'll keep plodding on0

What does it say on the front of the cd you have? Is it an original CD with printing on the side?
Is it scratched or dirty?
When you go into the bios, what is the boot order?
When you look on the disc in explorer, what files and directories can you see?
Donnie has patience btw, but it can be frustrating if you have to ask the same question many times, so try and answer things in as much detail as you can to speed things up.!!

Clearly we know that you put the disc in...but the question was "Did you place the CD into the DVD drive and then restart your computer?
Normally I would be concerned that I was insulting someone even needing to ask such a question. But your not replying to such a simple question left me unable to eliminate that this stage had been completed correctly.
If you think the problem is my patience, I think you are neglecting to administer to the real problem. Anyway, someone else has taken the baton. So see how you go.0 -
Ok fair enough, the disc says Ei System System Recovery CD-ROM it doesn't look scratched, I made a copy of it on Nero on my laptop, and the same thing, doesn't recognise etc.
When I try to look on the disc in explorer, I can't see any files it just comes up as nothing being in the drive. I've just noticed printed on the disc it that it says Windows XP home SP1 would that mean that because I am on service pack 2, it won't recognise it?
With regards to the Bios, I'll have to get back to you, my kids are on it and won't budge0 -
Donnie yes I did put the cd into the DVD drive and restarted my computer0

The sp thing isn't an issue.
If you put the cd in the other computer, what files can you see?
Do any other data CD's work in the machine? (Data, not music).
When you changed the boot order, did you save changes?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
There are loads I cant work out a way to copy and paste them onto here
Yeah data workd fine, I put in a new xp disc just to see, and started almost immediatly.
I also did save and quit on the Boot order0 -
If you have followed my instructions to the letter and created the XP Disc and a Driver disc, just go ahead with the installation of Windows XP SP3. No advantage in messing around with the Restore disc.
Place the disc in the drive and Restart the computer. Hit Enter to Boot from CD when the option appears.0 -
Will do, I'll let you know how I get on, Sorry about before!!0
