    Whatever happend to Transax?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

The cards have a magnetic strip and telephone number on the back for retailer enquiries :)

I can't imagine any retailer having the time, or inclination, to ring the Leeds Building Society to check whether they will guarantee the cheque or not. Once the standard cheque guarantee card scheme is withdrawn next year, it's much more likely that retailers will simply refuse to accept any cheques, card or no card.

That makes it a good opportunity for consumers to begin to educate businesses that not all banks are part of the group that is withdrawing their scheme and that cheque guarantees will continue.

Yes indeed , after all Electron and Maestro are still issued and in use

Debit Mastercards are rare but issued and in use

£50 & £250 cheque guarantee cards are rare but valid and in use

To be realistic, the market share of those banks continuing to offer cheque guarantee cards is so small that few retailers will bother to train their staff in them. I suspect the earlier poster was right when said that cheques will just not be accepted.

    Which will have no effect.
I doubt the alternative schemes will continue to run.
Most retailers have already taken the decision not to accept cheques at all.
Why would the rest be bothered with a scheme that only covers a few 10s of thousand people especially as it costs them more to process a cheque than a debit card transaction.

I doubt that many people have a Leeds Building Society cheque book account. More likely just a few hundred people. The card provided is a cheque guarantee card ONLY. It is not a debit card, nor even an ATM card, so the only way of getting cash is by visiting a Leeds branch, -unless you can find someone to cash a cheque for you. Not very convenient for most people.

Maybe they will upgrade the card when cheques are phased out. I have a Cash Transactor Account with Yorkshire BS and have been told that they are considering having a Debit Card on that account.
