The UK Domestic Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme /Payments Council members scheme is indeed ending , however Leeds B/Soc are not a member of this and will be continuing with its own cheque guarantee card regardless :rotfl:

They have a different hologram you see ;)

I think I might open one of these Leeds accounts - are they quite strictly credit scored?

And as for VISA and MasterCard being king - that is a load of rubbish - I think Cash is King - far more impressive seeing people peel off £50 notes than handing over some shoddily designed plastic card.

I thought you already had a Leeds account

I know they're a hassle and they cost extra, but Postal Orders are still available for those who need to post money. So are banker's drafts.

I used to work for a well known over 50s insurer and plenty of customers still send in cheques to pay for their insurance( plenty of cash comes though the post too!), and do understand the point of view of the ones that prefer to use them and are being forced off them. Ultimately, nobody likes change. Many people were more than happy with Pounds Shillings and Pence rather than this new fangled decimalised currency that everyone else was using.

Change happens, systems get replaced, not always by better ones. There will always be people who don't want an old system to go- there are still people out there using MS DOS and refusing to upgrade!

Anyway, eventually all transactions will be done with a thumbprint. :rotfl:
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

Nope - not with them - YET!

But have downloaded the forms from the website - and will be sending off a CHEQUE for £100 to open it up.

"QUINN: Well one of the clear things the Payments Council said at the time is that if you’re a customer who values the cheque guarantee facility and your bank offers you a new card without it, go back to your bank and ask them for that to be renewed.
    LEWIS: And they’ll do that?
QUINN: That was discussed at Payments Council Board and we’d expect members to abide by that. "

Is it not going to be a bit difficult to advertise to the nation, "The Cheque Guarantee System ends at the 30/06/2011, unless you happen to have one from Leed Building Society and can find someone that will accept it". What is Leeds Buidling Socities line on this one?

Dr Cuckoo is your Bank of Scotland Visa Debit card on their standard current account? I have noticed they are rebranding the branches and removing all Halifax logos, here in Glasgow I was thinking of applying as I grew-up with Super Squirrel, they realed me in!
