Dr Cuckoo is your Bank of Scotland Visa Debit card on their standard current account?

No - it's not a standard current account

"QUINN: Well one of the clear things the Payments Council said at the time is that if you’re a customer who values the cheque guarantee facility and your bank offers you a new card without it, go back to your bank and ask them for that to be renewed.
    LEWIS: And they’ll do that?
QUINN: That was discussed at Payments Council Board and we’d expect members to abide by that. "

Sandra Quinn may represent the Banking industry but she is often surprisingly unaware of what actually happens therein.

Don't bank on the Leeds keeping their cheque guarantee card for much longer. A thread on this page shows their future is still being considered:

The UK Domestic Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme /Payments Council members scheme is indeed ending , however Leeds B/Soc are not a member of this and will be continuing with its own cheque guarantee card regardless :rotfl:

They have a different hologram you see ;)

Leeds building society do not clear their own cheques. I believe they use Barclays who certainly are members of the Payments Council.
There is only only one cheque guarantee scheme as far as I'm aware.
Can you show me any evidence to show they have their own seperate scheme?
What is the picture in their hologram?

Their sort code is that of the Cooperative Bank.

I guess it isn't to do with if their clearing bank is a member or not - if they choose to have a guarantee card that is their business. Maybe their agreement with their clearing bank is they must honour payment regardless.

I think it is nice they have a Cheque Card - and a Cheque card with not VISA/Mastercard debit bit.

It's like going back to basics - something which isn't a bad thing. There is too much emphasis on plastic money these days.

The facility will be next to useless in a years time. Very few places will be accepting cheques and you will have great difficulty explaining that the Leeds BS scheme is still running (if it is) and is seperate from the, by then defunct, scheme run by the Payments Council.

A picture of the hologram is on the previous page of this thread (page 3) ;)

The 24 bank and building society members of the UK Domestic Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme are listed here ;)

    http://www.ukpayments.org.uk/media_centre/press_releases/-/page/719/

Leeds Building Society are not listed as members of the UK Domestic Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme

Norwich & Peterborough are not listed as members of the UK Domestic Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme either

Leeds and Norwich & Peterborough do not use the William Shakespeare hologram - Leeds have a pigeon instead

The cards have a magnetic strip and telephone number for retailer enquiries :D

Quite right - do you have "chip & signature" cards too ?

The point is once the payments council scheme ends it is very unlikely any retailer will take guaranteed cheques even if the card has a pigeon on it.!
