At the risk of seeming totally dumb can I ask what Mr T is. I see lots of posts about it!0

Hello Peonie _wave_ and stedwell _wave_, thanks for both stopping by.
No chance of seeming dumb on this diary, I save the honour for myself :rotfl:! Mr T is a rather well known chain of supermarkets, beginning in T and rhyming with 'besco'. Have you got it yet?Took me a while to crack it too, and there are still a few abbreviations here I don't quite understand!
Peonie, renting the room is going really well. It is great to get the chance to spend more time with live-in friend. I say that, but she has an active social life and with my own commitments we can often go several days without seeing each other! So I am glad when I do see her, IFYSWIM. I don't see it as a forever thing, just something to enjoy whilst she's here. And she is very good company and easy to live with - considerate, tidy, respectful to the house. As the room is in the loft, and no-one else is up there, she has a floor to herself so has privacy, and her own bathroom so no queues for the shower in the morning! Her fella is also lovely, so when he stays it is good to see him.

Hello both, thanks for the good wishes. I had an absolutely fab time, seeing friends, new babies, my massive extended family, and various pets! DD and I got on really well together, had enough visits to museums to keep me happy, a sunny day on Swansea beach, and my mum took her to the cinema one day.
OH is back from his work trip too :j:j:j! Am sooo pleased to see him, and we had a lovely weekend together, a good mix of social and some quiet time and a long walk in the woods together.
The only downside is that work did hurt today!
Mortgage statement received today - balance as of 1 June is £186,105.09 :j!

The new car is fab and OH is really keeping an eye on his petrol consumption. Today he managed an average of 63mpg! We filled up with a 5p off per litre voucher my mum gave us, which saved us £2.20 - I'm going to transfer that to the mortgage account shortly. We have a cheque from MM for £29 or so which I will be putting on the mortgage, and a grand £3 something to go on too from tcb! Our weekly shop this week has been £43, which we are very pleased with
.
We have applied for interest free car loan from his work, which means we will have £5k back in our savings soon. Our aim is to get to a buffer of £8k - we currently have £600. Whilst we are building to this we will pay the next money from OH completely to savings, and then after that 1/2 of our monthly savings to a savings account, and 1/2 off mortgage. We still have the final loft installment to pay. Our windows have been fixed after a VERY loooonnng wait, but back door and guttering still outstanding.
Overall it does feel like things are coming together for us financially at the moment, which is a priceless feeling.
We do have a friends 40th away coming up which will probably cost us a few hundred. However, my mum has offered to have DD one week in the summer which will save us £130 in childcare, and mean they get quality time together. The friend's bday place is not far at all from mums so will be saving on petrol by doing a combined trip too.
Migraines are down to about 2 or 3 a month, which is a major improvement.
Oooh, and on another moneysaving note, managed to make an extra £70 on the sale of our car for scrap. OH got a quote for £45 to collect, and was going to accept. After a few stern words from me and 20 mins on google/phone, now have offer of £115 to collect. Agreed to chuck this on the mortgage too.
I also saved £20 on the renewal of some vouchers I'd won but had lost last year what with all the housework and migraines. I was furious at the £20 charge to renew, but have been generously offered to have this refunded from the company I won them from..

You seem to be doing really well mw, glad you are feeling a bit better nowMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

That all sounds great MW, healthier personally and financially! I am loving you cobbling together "money scraps" for the mortgage they soon add up to £100 don't they?
The car sounds good what did you buy in the end? I am going to get a car, in which I am not remotely interested, so others' car purchases/recommendations have taken on a new fascination.0 -
Hello ladies, good to see you both. Am feeling a bit worn out today after evening out and poor nights sleep.
I have v little interest in cars too, but luckily the OH does so he did tons of research. The car is a Ford C Max diesel 1.8. Purchased an 57 reg, with under 40,000 miles. Went for that car as super economical, massive boot, cheap to insure, parts are cheap compared to foreign imports. OH says if you can get the 1.6 diesel it is even more economical, but not many out there, any smaller engines he thinks are underpowered. A lovely car, I am v happy with it and everyone who I know who has one rates it too. For a long time I wanted a Hondajazz due to high customer satisfaction, cheap to run, small but spacey but OH overruled it as he thought boot space not as good and a little underpowered. That is literally everything I know about cars in a few sentences!
