  • Thanks so much to you all, its at times like this I remember why I keep this diary up - having such supportive messages to log onto is lovely.

toots it has been ages since I had a break and as DD and OH were both under the weather over xmas it didn't feel like much of a break. We are all off together next week :D, going to manchester, hopefully a day in the peak district if the weather perks up, a day in coventry, seeing friends, family and a new baby :j. Just generally having some family time together should be great.

wabl, macgirl and mummalove - you're all right, it is part of the guilt of being a working mum, especially full time it really is a strain on the family. But we're not a position for me to go part time yet, hopefully in a few years we will be. I feel so frazzled at the moment, just worn out with work, running around for DD, trying to keep up with friends and family and getting the house straight. I suppose it is no surprise that I broke this morning.

Chin up indeed. And I've gotten over the double booking now - nobody died, it is a mild annoyance but in the grand scheme of things £30 is not worth getting upset about as there is nothing I can do about it now. On the positive side, we now have tickets to go to Green Man festival in the summer - all 3 of us and two friends :D. That is half our summer holiday sorted, we will stay in the run up to the festival and get to explore the area a bit too beforehand.

And we got the other carpet quote back, £205 cheaper :D, so plan to place the order this week.

Sorry you had a crap day yesterday. I'm dreading it when dd2 starts school this year and I have to take her to breakfast club etc. Really spurs you on to get the mortgage down though.

Hope you feel brighter this morning MW. It makes me feel terribly guilty that DD hardly ever has both me and DH at home together, days like that are a rareity. Great news about the carpet.
A few days away sounds like exactly what you need.

The majority have it - guilt is an innate part of parenting whatever your situation! I feel like that should give me more reassurance than it does though...

DD has had a much better few days after my breakdown at school yesterday. She has had time with the school counsellor, who got her to write a story - ended up being about how her mum was so upset that she (DD) wasn't enjoying school that the mum flooded the tube with her tears and everyone had to get their swimming costumes out :rotfl:! I have to laugh at it, although yesterday it made me cry again! DD has now joined a nurture group at school, I hope that will help. She seems much brighter in herself though and more positive which is good.

Definitely feeling more upbeat myself today too. Done a few onepoll surveys - really can't bring myself to do my$urvey (or whatever they're called) right now as they can drag on! !psos done too, an extra 75 points. Checked grabbit board but managed to restrain myself ;). Had free schwim with DD after school, managed 20 lengths in 25 mins which I was happy with and means I only need to do one more workout this week to reach my 3x weekly target :D. Bought friend a birthday present using free voucher from surveys :D, and I will use one of my stash of cards from home. I made an easy cassoleut in the slow cooker last night, put it on this morning and it is absolutely gorgeous. Have about 12 or so portions for about £9, so will freeze most of it ;). Hung out a washload rather than use drier and have a hot water bottle on the sofa rather than turning the heating up.

Just thinking about the 'small things' thread on the DFW board, it is very useful in showing how the little things in life can help add up financially. Wondering if should follow that, or if we need one on the MFW board?

Builders have been working today on the snagging, it is really very close to finishing. Not sure if they think we are nit picking now, but the finish on some of the jobs wasn't very good so we've asked them to do it again. We're paying for this, so we want it to be done right first time, and if not first time, then put right very shortly after. I beginning to think our expectations may be too high :rotfl:!

  • There used to be a what have you done to be MF today thread. It was never a daily one though. Just continued on the same thread every day. It was motivating. Might save our diaries getting so big so quick.
  • Have placed carpet order :j, should all be done in time for our impending family visit :D. We are paying for the whole amount and then taking the amount the builders have to pay off the final bill.

Have had to crack the whip with the builders today, yesterday they made good around the wrong plug socket in the wrong, newly decorated room  which means we now have to repaint in there.

Called FD to check and the application is in progress, just at the stage of checking identity and credit ratings.

Taking DD and a friend to their school disco this afternoon, will probably spend about £6 there - glad that she actually wants to go, earlier this week she didn't fancy it. It is hell for me, have to just sit there with music so loud you can't really talk - but she normally has a whale of a time!

  • Oh no   cake club catastrophe!

Caramel cakes turned into froth in the oven, and are totally ruined. I think I am going to have to use some of that Betty Crockers brownie mix and give big apologies!!!

  • Subject to valuation, we've been approved for the FD mortgage! :j :j

Currently at my sister's place, have been for a nice walk, had a roast dinner cooked for us (yum!) and just generally chilled out. Brought our lovefilm to watch together (julie and julia), and am reading the slap which I picked up for 50p in a local charity shop. DD delighted there are 2 cats to lavish with affection, and OH has had his first afternoon nap on a Sunday in a very very long time! We both woke up this morning thinking about how much there is to do with our house, but we are going to write a plan, and enjoy the rest of our time off.
