Hello all - using lunch break to write a proper post ;)

We had a lovely break together, it was so good just having uninterrupted family time. We visited 3 free museums (the Herbert in Coventry which is brilliant for families, Stockport Story and the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester), and a couple of national trust places, getting use out of our membership :D. We mostly did packed lunches, although we had two lunches out (including the best dim sum I've ever had!). I tried to be as MFW as possible whilst still having fun - for example I ran back to the car to get my museums association card so I would get £5 off entry for us to the Stockport Air Raid shelters! My sister gave me 8 books, she reads so much and they are all recent novels, so some free reading there! Am reading Never Let Me Go at the minute. But it is always tricky when you are staying with others to be quite as frugal as at home - we had a takeaway we could have done without, but the people we were staying with clearly didn't want to cook, and we'd only just got there so didn't have time to go and get stuff to cook for them.

Yesterday I worked at an event, so got free entry :D, five free family history magazines, free lunch and refreshments and a day off in lieu. That'll save me £30, as I hope to use it over Easter and not have to use childcare.

OH has ripped up the floor covering, so for the first time in 5 months our home looks like ours again :j! The carpet is being fitted on Friday, the blinds have been fitted, and the mattress is due Friday!

On not so good MFW news, our hoover however has become a bit pathetic, not surprising given it is a very old Dyson that we found in the street 4 years ago! OH really wanted to buy a Dyson, but in the end we went for a Vax which is £100 cheaper and still has great reviews (£129 off amazon). I hope it is as good as the reviews say, as otherwise I think he might blame me for it! He tried saying 'what's £100 in the grand scheme of things?', but that argument didn't wash as it is a lot of money if you can get something which does as good a job! Am hoping it comes by the weekend, in time for the long overdue deep clean of the whole house _pale_

Welcome back! I'm glad that you had a good week away :D

It sounds like everything is coming together on the house front too. You'll have to let me know what you think about the new vacuum cleaner as I need a new one and can't quite bring myself to go and buy one as I generally find them all pretty rubbish quite quickly :(

    Hi MW,

It sounds like you had a great time.

I've been to Manchester's Science and Industry museum when the body worlds exhibition was on - thought the whole museum was fab. We're going back soon to take DD.

I didn't know about stockports air raid shelter so I just goggled it and think it's worth a visit. How bad is it that I live nearby and didn't know it existed!

    Thanks for that

P.S Do you know if the air raid shelter is it suitable for a pram ?

Will let you know about the vax rach, has been dispatched so should be here by the weekend :D.

I enjoyed the air raid shelters, very atmospheric. I would check with them about the buggy, but I can't remember any steps. Only a small part is accessible, but on the first Wednesday of every month they do evening tours of the rest, which we really want to go back and do. I enjoyed it enormously, as did DD - OH thought it a bit pricey but I think he is too used to me getting him in free most places :rotfl:.

Anyway, bit of a surprise today. Had call from Doctors after, ahem, ladies test last week. All normal, apart from fact it has come back with candida (thrush). This has really upset me - I went to the doctors with it 2 years ago and am worried that it has stayed on since then. I have also googled candida and one of the first things that comes up is about Candida as a condition - many of the symptoms I have, like the IBS like symptoms. I'm now really worried about this as apparently it is not really recognised as a condition by the medical community. Any advice from anyone here???

    Thanks for your reply.

My thoughts are that it must only be very mild if you didn't know you had it. I can't see you having it from 2 years ago as surely it would have got worse over time. Ask for a retest or use canestan then retest in a few weeks. ( obviously only my own opinion ) Hope it helps

Not something i have had myself so can't really comment other than to second what Iris said, surely if it was from 2 years ago you would have had the symptoms of it. It would have multiplied enough to make you aware of it. Best to talk to someone like your Dr to ease your worries and work out if it is something that needs treatment.

Thanks ladies - I don't think I've had thrush for 2 years (I would have noticed I hope!). What I think is that I might have whole body or systemic candida, and am hoping there is someone who reads this who may be able to give some advice. The various ailments I have had over the last 2 years all make sense if you consider candida - migraines, IBS like symptoms, kidney infection, thrush, sinus infections, tiredness, joint aches. I am extremely upset about even considering this possibility, as the treatment involves a very strict diet and lots of supplements for quite some time, with likelihood of recurrence throughout your life.

Picked up prescription this morning, and have made an appointment to speak to a doctor on Friday. Bought a book on the Anti-candida diet from Amazon, had remainders of a gift certificate and bought it second hand through seller so was only £3.19 including postage from pocket money.

    Feeling extremely low :(.

Mortgage valuators called to make appointment, but they had us down as living at the wrong number house (same street), they now have to check again with FD before it can progress.
