Looks like you will get some help with the migraines, good. Well done on the FD thing we can obsessively internet race the mortgage!

I am doing complicated money moving today to get a 0% deal for my holiday costs, it will mean taking back my mortgage payments etc for a few days but long term is worth it. All my big costs of the year will be done by March so will need to motor after that.

    How's the loft?

mummalove i think we cross posted, but thanks for asking!

toots the race will hopefully soon be on! You must be so excited about your holiday, it sounds brilliant and glad you can get it on a 0% after some moving money magic. The loft is in stasis but OH has a week off to decorate now, so expecting to see a huge amount of progress this week!

CathT we managed to get the stuff posted special delivery, if and when we do secure the mortgage it will be a major relief indeed. We have stated we would like to pay the same as now, which will be a £200 and a bit overpayment every month :D. After playing with my android app, I found out that if we could OP by another £800pm on top, we could be MF within 10 years :j. Not sure how realistic that is in the longer term, but for now I find it incredibly motivating.

tyo not sure when I should hear back - whole process should take 5 weeks, but as we're missing a few bits of paper, may be a bit longer.

Had a good weekend away for my sister's 40th. She loved the Soap and Glory tote I picked up the other week from boots, and the fiorelli (sale) wallet. Having our whole extended family together was a novelty, there were 35 of us (including a few friends) in the restaurant ! The meal wasn't quite as expensive as I thought, and we took our own wine. I did have to leave early as I felt a bit dizzy, but after a nap at mums was feeling much better and had a couple more hours with the crazy family :D. The nap did knock out my sleep patterns though so am now pretty tired! Saw some school friends for fry up today with OH, that was lovely too and didn't want to come back!

My sister gave me a baby gate and a high chair she no longer needs, it is a really good one but need to order a new plastic cover and reins from the website. Even with the outlay, should save us a few quid if and when we have another.

    What app is that?

Good luck with being mortgage free in 10 years!

I searched for the App on my I-phone but couldn't find it. We have kept most things of DD's ready for this baby but not sure the highchair would survive another 16-18 months although new reins could see it survive so might look into that.

  • laurasavon the app is called Karl's Mortgage Calculator and is free to download from android market. I would LOVE to OP £800 pm, but time will tell how feasible it is over the long term. Right now we can do that, but I know it would be unrealistic to expect our income to stay the same.

CathT As it is android, not sure if it will be available for i-phone. Will let you know cost of new reins and cover for the chair.

Payday :j:j, so money transferred and accounts topped up again. Once it lands, I will update sig with savings figure for Jan.

Extremely busy day at work, glad to sit down! Had 1:1 with boss where asked for permanent contract ;), went to pub I had the offer voucher for and had lovely 2 course lunch, drinks and tip for £21 for us both - I picked up the bill this time, which came out of pocket money. The food was really good again.

OH has done really well with the 'mist coat' on the loft today :D. We only have £450 in our joint account , but had some money left over we drew out for the weekend. Am DETERMINED to make it last without having to dip into savings. Did the weekly food shopping for £30 :D from the cash, and we spent £18.50 on paint from the house account. Using the homebase value brilliant white for mist coat and the ceilings final coat, OH thinks it is fine and sooo much cheaper than dulux.

Bad news though on the proposed tax changes. If they do drop the 40% bracket to £35K it means we would be £1k worse off per year. We will be losing child benefit next year which is another £1k. Along with VAT rises and petrol increases it does feel like financially it as all bad news. And we are in the extremely fortunate position of both having work, and having cut our expenses so low that we have a large surplus, so at least we are cushioned from these decreases in income/increases in costs.

  • Mornin mw!
sounds like a good couple of days for you and yay for payday! :)
I didnt know about the tax changes...there goes me keeping my head in the sand ... not sure if it will affect me have no idea what salary is at the mo! shall check... then again if it is as high as 35K I shall be very happy :rotfl:
The increasing prices of things with more tax does feel a bit harsh , but like you I remind myself we are lucky to be both working and able to save each month for a cushion should any of that change ...sometimes I lose perspective I focus so hard on wanting the mortgage gone like NOW (!) and I forget that in the grand scheme of things I am in an incredibly fortunate position ...
good luck with the loft painting - how long do you reckon till you can be up there and enjoying it?

Gave 2 back to back 2 hour tours of the museum store today, absolutely exhausted. My 3 month bank statements have come through, OH's haven't. Picked our new bedrooms colours - one is a colour we already had a tin left over from, so that is free :D (french gray, f&b). Really can't decide on hall way colour though - tried 3 new testers at £3.50 each and don't like any of them!

tyo - counting my blessings is the only thing I can do at the minute to stop me going mad! Reckon rooms will be painted by end of weekend. Hoping to order carpet on weekend, once down we just need to furnish. Hoping it'll be ready for our first family booking, mid march. We are away 2 weekends in Feb, so a pretty mean feat. The rest of the house needs a deep clean and finishing off too, so there is quite a lot left to do!
