DD coughed her way through another night - at about midnight I felt so bad for her, I decided to get in with her and give her hugs. Result was a happier DD, but hardly a wink for me. Had early start too, up and out by 645 which just feels wrong...

As a result am shattered. DD begged to go swimming, but I said no, not with that cough. Took her to a crafts activity in a library we walk past on the way home instead. She is now having a weekday supper (read beans on toast, at least its HM bread!), hot bath and bed to follow. Might put a few drops of olbas oil in the bath.

Apparently the dorma part will be finished this thursday, so have another £9k + VAT to pay this week - OMG that is £23,500 we are paying this week   !

Need to get focused on the financing now as things are progressing quickly. Will copy over to do list in a minute, I have just called A&L to see why ISA not showing on account, they are combining the 2 records for me, so should be able to transfer the money from there over in 3-5 working days.

Despite exhaustion, am thinking I really should do some exercise (is that madness??). Haven't done any for weeks and am really missing it, feeling quite lardy at the moment and have definitely put on a few pounds.

tyo - did you manage to get OH out? The weather was pretty rubbish yesterday. DD didn't fancy going to Wicked Day, instead took her to Primarni where she spent birthday money on a snuggly dressing gown, and I got her a sleep suit and some fleecy pajamas on behalf of my sister as a belated bday present. I did also cheat and spend £5 of my pocket money on another pair of fleecy pjs, I love the last pair and these are quite cath kidston print - now I have one to wash and one to wear. I also spent £3 on library fines from last year this afternoon, so have £142 left of pocket money.

    TO DO:
    * claim back expenses from committee sent off
    * get statement from transport for London ordered, plus got £2 back from overcharge I claimed back in September
    * claim back for delays to tube this evening (and possibly this morning once have statement).
    * send off Premium bonds for cashing in done
    * transfer ISA money out - in progress
    * check what cheques due to builders - done, way way too much money!
    * check when need to order radiators
    * get quote for repointing asked builders again.
    * get windows and doors measured and see when need ordering asked builders
    * claim back for delayed train last week

oh hope dd gets better soon-good call on the no swimming I think! ;)
hope you both get a better nights sleep tonite
eek on the spending money!! but think of how lovely itll be when its finished...I remember handing over that kind of money when I bought my flat, it was gutting as Id never had anything like that in my account before (or since! :rotfl:) but its worth it :)

nope didnt go out yesterday, OH was working so I went to friends with a little one for a halloween party was lovely (plus I came back with some sweets ;) )

I need to get back on the exercise front too, have definitely put on a few pounds since the cold weather has really set in ....wish I didnt like chocolate or biscuits so much! finding it much harder to exercise without a gym - even tho I didnt use the membership enough to make it worth paying for at all ....once its cold and dark and I get in , I dont really wanna do anything except veg infront of the tv ....even cooking dinner seems an effort tonite! ....maybe once Im MF Ill pay someone to be my personal chef!...

eeek at the builders spends for this week!! Much better than CC spending and being hit with a huge bill though! Is the work progresing quicker than you thought it would? I have started wondering if a conversion would be possible in our house but no one around here has done it so I don't think the loft is big enough! stupid 70's houses - what were the builders thinking at this time!

How was DD last night? Cuddles work better than anything don't they but don't result in much rest!

We had the front of our old house repointed and from what I remember it wasn't too expensive. You generally just pay for the labour as they don't use too much in way of supplies. Good luck with completing your list!

  • Work is so fast I think it may be over a lot lot sooner! Dormas are built, roof goes on and first plumbing happens all by end of week! I think you're right CathT about the loft in more recent houses, they do tend to not be big enough to convert.

DD is getting better cough wise, although insisting on a packet of cough sweets each day for school! We have been quoted £250 + VAT for the repointing, unless it goes to 2 days, in which case it will be more. Does that sound about right?

tyo - I hear you about the exercise! I have had to teach myself the habit, and focus on how good I am going to feel afterwards. Last night I did a dvd for the first time in 3 weeks, and feel so much better about my body now. Did Cindy Crawford this time. I just don't think about it, get changed as soon as I get in or DD is in bed and whack it on. The 10 minute solution dvds are good to start with, as they are cheap, and you can just do one or two if you really can't face more.

Despite tube strike had a good journey to work today :j. Plus have cake club at 11, and am meeting museum friends for lunch and another friend after work. It is a good day :D.

Moneywise, have ordered oyster usage statement, and have all my premium bonds ready to send off - £5,175 in total. Quite strange as looking at them last night, I remember when I got them and why, I was in a very different place then. Glad they have been saved for such a worthwhile project. Got £2 refunded from tfl yesterday, and sent off expenses to committee as well.

Toots, if you're reading this, I haven't got time to post on your diary at the minute as am at work, but I am totally envious of your buys in San Francisco, sounds like my sort of town!

Premium bonds sent, entered my first Walkers rainy day competition, had good lunch and only spent £4 :D. Friend cancelled this evening due to feeling unwell, am therefore happy to be at home.

We have a viewing of loft tomorrow at 7.30 so should have better idea of progress on building work then. Tomorrow is DD's firework night at school, was brilliant last year. Should be £6 for us all to go, and then some food for DD.

Please please rain on Sunday on my given spot! ;)

Great news about the premium bonds! I think your quote sounds about right, we paid £200 a few years ago so that sounds reasonable.
    Loft work is moving quickly!
I haven't even thought about firework displays at the moment. Trying to work on bedtime routine with DD so reluctant to disrupt it by going anywhere!

  • If no news is good news... then a viewing of the loft is definitely BAD news! Went up this morning, and the en suite is not possible with the shower we ordered. The architects drawings are completely out. He showed the shower in the corner of the room, to the right of the door, with a 1200mm space. We checked with him before ordering a 900mm quadrant shower tray. Now it turns out the door opens directly onto the shower, and the 900mm won't work as there won't be enough space to get into the room. The only way his drawings could have worked is if the door was only about 4 foot tall to move it sufficiently to the left under the pitch!

Am trying to avoid costs escalating - have contacted the suppliers about taking back the shower and swapping it for a 800mm one. Am waiting to hear back from them, likely to be a £50 charge, plus 20% restocking fee (It was £149 in the first place). Plus to buy the smaller size will cost us £238, and new delivery charge. We are thinking about asking the builders to cover the cost of the wasted shower unit (£149) and the delivery charge for the new shower (£34). Then it will be only £90 more we have spent.

GRRR. Now better get some work done!

  • Hello
I'm just reading your thread and getting some ideas for my MFW journey.

The shower incident sounds like a nightmare - you can't be expected to foot the bill for a mistake that's out of your hands! Hope you can rectify it quickly.

oh no MW, hope the builder pays those costs for you, you only ordered what you were told you could after all.

How is DD now? Has the cough gone?
