Haha all that utter tosh about people living on £60 a week, you know full well its more than that, think of all the other benefits that can be claimed, some of them seem better off than someone who works and has to pay their own bills! very fair, yes?

I gotta admit, other than all the benefits involved, from housing benefits, child benefits and council tax benefits, I have no idea how much people get on JSA a week. If its only £60 a week, I cannot fathom how they survive, that wont even cover my weekly food shopping bill.

It appears you are the only one allowed to rant, anytime anyone disagrees with your views you consider them bitter and twisted.

Nope, I've never said that. We've all got opinions which makes a debate all the more worthwhile! If you care to re-read that person's comments then you might notice that they were implying that the positions or the rates were not real, which they could not substantiate.

I would suggest you put your tradesman to work then sign up for a weeks course in 'getting over yourself" - you are aware that yours isn't the only opinion that matters I assume?

What valuable advice -thank you! Another one that reverts to a personal attack. Why not focus your energy on giving us YOUR opinion on the discussion? Or maybe you have some business advice to offer too?

I realise that this thread has gone a little past what the OP said in the OP, but I just want to make an observation... It seems to me that the OP was shocked that people would apply for a job (quite a well paid one at that) and then not bother to answer their phone or turn up for an interview regarding it. I think (now please correct me if I'm wrong) that what she/he was saying was that people on benefits 'must' have a more luxurious life than she/he assumed if they can pooh pooh a job offer. I took this to be in a sort of sarcastic manner rather than that she/he actually thought people on job seekers have it easy!

MODERATORS - why are you deleting posts please?

I made two posts this morning, one of which has disappeared as has all of the posts of the person I was responding to.

    have you deleted their account?

The second post now means nothing without the first and I shall have to delete that too.

    what a waste of time.

Edited to add: I've now deleted my post

Yeh I was just about to reply to one poster where they said they had seen another somewhere else that they must have been watching the Jeremy Kyle show then but never mind.

mandi, I am sure your son would be an asset to any company with such an attitude and due to that I am sending you a suggestion I know has worked for others that may help him, not posting it open as the lazy don't deserve it.

Thank you! You are spot on. The title of the thread has a hint of sarcasm but was also intended to spark a debate. Usually sub-contractors contact me, we discuss the work required and the rates of pay then agree a start date. What I couldn't believe was the number of guys that contacted me with details of their experience who, on deciding that they would be suitable, then could never be contacted by me again. Currently we hear of lots of trades without work but I have the work and I couldn't get some of them to take it (or even discuss it further after the initial contact) which I find extremely bizarre! Obviously we did manage to get enough labour eventually but I really couldn't understand why so many of them just 'disappeared'! I did make an assumption that if they tried to get the work and then had no interest in moving forward with it then they must be in receipt of income elsewhere - income support, jsa etc? Usually if guys still have some work then we have an adult discussion to see if they would be available at some point for the job in hand. However, some just sent details then.....nothing! Is this typical in other industries? - I don't know, which was the point I wished to raise. I certainly didn't intend to have a general pop at everyone - which is how some people have taken it.

I did read them - very useful and certainly nothing offensive in them! Looks like they've gone because they've got rid of the wind-up merchant :p
