Carers can work full time - I know several that do. It does mean that they cannot claim Carer's Allowance, though. Wages are definitely higher than CA, as they have to be at least the minimum wage. CA is £53.90 a week, for a minimum of 35 hours a week caring. This works out at £1.54 per hour if you care for the minimum 35 hours, less if you care for more hours.

Maybe mum meant that she personally would have to give up one shift at work in order to fit in that many hours of caring, with sleeping (she sleeps a lot!) and spending time with dad etc.

she's sticking with working, and around 20 hours per week caring. there are other family members to help, so they share it.

That's probably what your mum meant - you did say in your earlier post that she is cutting her hours. Personally, I fully understand the sleep issue. When my son is at school, I often go back to bed for a few hours because I am up so much in the night with him. Caring can be very tiring at times.

Your mum might benefit from registering at her nearest Carer's Centre as well. Ours is brilliant. If I just need to talk, I can call in without an appointment. The Centre also offers courses from moving and handling to papercraft; therapies such as massage for carers; benefits checks and form filling; specific carer's groups for parent carers and carers of people with Alzheimers; advice on setting up local carer's social and support groups; Caring with Confidence course; chiropody; life books. There are lots of other things available as well, such as the Carer's Emergency Card. All of this is free. The support is invaluable.

Without trawling through pages of drivel, it's rather distateful to call playground names on an internet forum. If you think you are doing yourself any favours, I'm just letting you know, you're not.

Deepmistrust - seeing as this is a PUBLIC forum , the purpose of such is that everyone is entitled to their OWN opinion , i would "just let you know" that i am as entitled to my OWN opinion as the next person so please bare that in mind .

Also , as a side note...have you actually READ any of flights posts ? This person OPENLY admits that they DO NOT WANT TO GO OUT TO WORK as they can earn more money at home on benefits !

They also openly admit that their dla funds high spead broadband and sky multiroom !

Maybe you need to trawl through "pages of drivel" before you behave in such an opiniated manner in future? Im just "letting you know...."

opinion is one thing. playground names are not opinions.

I'm not commenting on Flight(whoever) situation, or even your opinoins against them, but pointing out your prejudices to use "deaf and stupid" say more about you, than him.

And if you think spouting your opinions somehow immunises you to criticism of them, I think you are utterly confused.
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.

Twas indeed me and no I dont take it back. Nor do I accet that his poor english is due to being deaf. I work with a woman who is profoundly deaf who writes Court standard reports without them appearing to be written by a child.

And I totally agree he is lazy & work shy. He has already admitted he WONT work because he gets too much in benefits.

And they say being on benefits isn't a career choice!

Shell , for what its worth i have to say i agree with you totally.
There are people who are deaf who lead a "normal" life....im NOT saying that deafness musnt be the most terrible thing to try to live with but what i AM saying is that flight seems to enjoy being able to use it as reason not to hav to work!

Flight almost comes across as he/she is off the impression that being deaf gives them an AUTOMATIC entitlement to dla !

My father is hard of hearing , he uses a hearing aid
My sil is deaf in one ear and she uses a hearing aid.

Deafness affects everyone differently. Being deaf in one ear is different to being deaf in both.

How does being deaf preclude working? I have worked with a number of profoundly deaf people. You give deaf people a bad name flight and should be ashamed of yourself, why would you need to work for minimum wage? Yes sh is right, being deaf in one ear is quite different , my mum was deaf in one ear and you wouldn't know, however being deaf definately does not stop you working and I would argue why do you need DLA just because you are deaf?
