Being deaf also affects speech.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
50p saver #40 £20 banked
Virtual sealed pot #178 £80.250 -
And? As I say I have worked with profoundly deaf people and whilst 1 who had been to an excellent special school had very good speech, the other could be understood perfectly well with practice. So they neither worked with customers, but as he did technical drawing it wasn't necessary.
In these days of computers and even synthesized speech I would have thought the world of work for deaf people was really opening up.
Although Evelyn Glennie was not born deaf do you think she would be happy by people thinking that deaf people are restricted from doing anything, no. It is an extra challenge, but those like her who have something about them face that challenge.
Well with a requirement to do boards I doubt flight will be allowed to continue on his merry way.0 -
Does DLA, IS, CB, HB, CT, CTC count as income for child tax credit in 2011 ?
DLA Adult - £191.20 a month (me)
DLA Child - £247.33 a month (my son)
IS - £588.40 a month
CB - £81.20 a month
CTC - £217.22 a month
HB - £527.80 a month
CT - £84.60 a month
Total - £1937.75 per month
Forget to add one more as I do have SDA (severe disabled allowance) benefit that pay me £312 a month
So, a total month of £2249.75 a month0 -
Sometimes deaf people aren't just deaf though. If you saw my stepsister in the daytime on a short errand you'd probably think that deafness was her only problem. She has ushers though, which affects her balance and that gets worse the longer she is on her feet. Last year I stood in a queue with her at the theme park which looked like it would only be 20 mins but it was 45 minutes after which she could barely keep herself upright. She has tunnel vision and also can't see in the dark, or even dusk.
I don't know if her balance is all down to ushers, I remember they used the word !!!!!! when she was a toddler. She is childlike in many ways and doesn't seem to think like an adult. She has an active social life but isn't interested in dating and probably won't have children.
Her reading and writing is much much worse than flight's, but she is dyslexic too.
It wouldn't be fair to compare to her the girl in the next street of a similar age, who works full time, because they are very different.52% tight0 -

Well then from the sound of it your sister has a condition which has deafness as a feature and obviously that is different. If the only disability a person has is deafness then there is absolutely no reason that they would not be able to have a job. People who were called !!!!!! are now diagnosed as cerebral palsy now, I believe.
As the balance mechanism is in the ear I would imagine that balance issues and deafness may well often be associated.0 -
Think you are correct here....
Flight is a troll !0 -

Yes sh is right, being deaf in one ear is quite different , my mum was deaf in one ear and you wouldn't know, however being deaf definately does not stop you working and I would argue why do you need DLA just because you are deaf?
Because being deaf IS actually a disability.
!!!!!!, again, why did I need to explain that? All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

I only have one child at school, but I can imagine what it is like if you have say all 3 children there at the same time. It is perks like this that discourage parents from taking up employment. Everyone must take their share of the cutbacks, though I agree some cutbacks are unfair this isn't one to get worked up about.
I wasnt referring to myself DD isnt even at school yet and Im not getting worked up about it I was merely asking what the cut was and commenting on the response
It doesnt bother me in the slightest as are income was too high to start with before the cut to qualift for free school mealsWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -

They all took packed lunches, although perhaps not to the standard of what is expected in lunchboxes these days. Mine got 2 rounds of bread with a filling plus an apple or banana and water to drink from the tap provided at school.
They have very strict guidelines now as to what they are allowed to take, they have to take 1 fruit, 1 dairy and 1 meat item. No sweet foods or crisps allowed. Theyre allowed squash and fruit juice I think. Some parents have sent their kids in with packed lunches meeting the guidelines and had it taken off their child then billed for a school lunch after Ive read about it on hereWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0
