Flight, I'm supposed to wear a hearing aid, but choose not to aswell.
I got tired of the tinnitus and headaches, but my lip reading skills are pretty good so it didn't make much difference to me.
People around me know not to 'sneak' up on me, and to speak clearly so I can tell what they are saying.
It's not a perfect system, but I'm pretty adaptable :)

I pay my DLA for special interpreter, paying expensive phone bills (using text relay service from typetalk as it take more longer calls on textphone) paying taxi to fetch and drop my son to school every days. Paying my hearing aids batteries at boots (as NHS batteries is no longer in my local GP)

lieing isnt a disability is it?

Your sons transport is funded and theres no need for batteries from boots troll.

What a horrible comment! Deaf people don't hear the way people speak, and sign language doesn't include all of the words we use. It has a different sentence structure. Just because a deaf person doesn't type using the same grammar and structure as hearing people does NOT mean they are stupid!

I disagree. What the point go to work to work hard for 40 hours a week or more and pay too much taxes after taking salary home as many deaf agreed that it was very poor salary on all deaf peoples who put in a stupid crap job that the management will never promotion any deaf workers.

I earn more on the benefit than taking a job offer who only pay me £5.80 an hour (there is no way I am not working for that crap salary) So, earning £232 a week before tax but after tax will probably take home around £101 a week (where can I live on ??? How can I pay bills, foods, council tax, house rent) impossible. That's why my benefits of £700+ a month is far better than job around £404 a month!

If they taking my DLA away I will go down to solicitor and fight appeal in court. Deaf need DLA afterall.

I had told job centre many times I need £10-£12 an hour job then I will take it but not £6 an hour or less - no way!)

Im sorry but I find that comment quite offensive, as its people who work hard and pay taxes that enable you to receive nearly 2K a month. Its just lucky not everyone has that attitude !!

wouldn't you still get DLA even if you had a job? and if you were on a low wage you'd get tax credits. the supermarkets here employ deaf people.

Providing you still meet the criteria, you can claim DLA & work.

I think you can only work part time if you are a carer though, my mum was talking about it at the weekend. She can't get carers allowance for my nan unless she cuts her hours. She does the caring gladly though, without the allowance. not everyone could manage to, depending on how much petrol they needed, how much washing they were doing for the other person etc. so we're lucky that nan is only 3 miles away and we can manage the washing between family.

Carers can work full time - I know several that do. It does mean that they cannot claim Carer's Allowance, though. Wages are definitely higher than CA, as they have to be at least the minimum wage. CA is £53.90 a week, for a minimum of 35 hours a week caring. This works out at £1.54 per hour if you care for the minimum 35 hours, less if you care for more hours.
