That's such a kind thing you did for that poor dog; thank goodness there are some decent, thoughtful, caring people in the world. Well done. The owner deserves to be prosecuted for cruelty by neglect. I hope and pray the story has a happy ending; dogs are so loyal, they deserve love and attention by the bucket load!

Michele, You are not in Dunoon by any chance are you?

I could be- why do you ask?

Your description, A ferry from good shops but on the West Coast. My mum was born in Dunoon, My mate Duncan lives there part of the year.

I am quite sure the RSPCA put the same professionalism into caring for animals as the USPCA in Northern Ireland and the SSPCA in Scotland. You may hear the odd story where they haven’t been up to scratch but steps are taken to make sure it does not go wrong again and as they are a bigger charity they may have more cases overall.

I've never had to deal with the RSPCA, but when reading about them on forums etc. it's usually bad reports- I suppose people dont report all the good work done though.

Yes Dunoon is sadly lacking good shops and to get to civilisation you need to take a ferry. Nice place though :D

  • Both my experiences with the RSPCA have been positive, once when I reported an injured cat, they called me straight back and visited within an hour, and the second time, a neighbour had reported an injured fox but it had ran into my shed, he came through and caught it, unfortunately its wound was too serious so it didnt survive.
But we are not in a rural area

Thanx for the number- I've just phoned and they're going to get someone to look into it.

Hopefully the poor dog will get the help he needs.

Really hope the SSPCA are better than the RSPCA - I have called them on a number of occasions and have failed to get them out once ! Despite there being an RSPCA place 20 miles away - last time I was so disgusted I cancelled my monthly payment to them.

Keep us posted and well done for doing something:T

Yeah and consequently a lot of Scots donate to the RSPCA because their adverts are still on our TVs. *grr!*

Edit: sorry, forgot to actually reply to OP! I hope the dog gets some help, please keep us updated if you hear more

We have the USPCA in N.Ireland, which also suffers from the RSPCA's fundraising strategies as their adverts appear here as well. The USPCA is a completely different organisation, different Trustees, different management, different bank accounts, different operating area and does not benefit from the funds the RSPCA raises in N.Ireland. Oops sorry, didn't mean to start a rant!

I hope this poor dog gets the love and attention he desperately needs. At least someone cares enough to pick up the phone. I'm surprised at the vet though, I'd have thought they would give the owner a right rollicking - I know my vet would give very exact advice and opinion in a similar situation.

I dont know what the vet said to the owners when they arrived to pick up the dog- all I know is he was chained up in the hot midday sun the next day, panting and looking very sore :( All we can hope for is that he's at least on a course of antibiotics to help his wounds.

Will keep you all updated and will be phoning the SSPCA if they haven't called me back by tomorrow.
