Upset about dogs condition

On Friday I came across a dog who was limping along the main road, he collapsed and was obviously quite ill. His back legs, at the ankles, were swollen, had no fur and were weaping badly. I scooped him up (he had a collar on but no tag), put him in the car and took him to the vets.

The vets recognised him and told me he was an old dog who had been in an accident many years ago and had pins holding his legs together. They said he desperately needed to be on antibiotics and was very dehydrated. They got his paperwork out- asked me where i'd picked him up and said he lived just round the corner in '..... Ave.'
I left him in the hands of the vets.

The next day we were driving past '.......Ave.' and I thought i'd drive by the houses to see if I could see him and to find out how he was doing. Well it was a really hot day and low and behold, there he was- chained to a post in sun, he must have been roasting as he has quite a thick coat. I went to the door, but knowone was in. He had a bowl of water beside him, but it was really hot. His wounds on his leg were bright red and still weaping, it must have been so uncomfortable for him with the sun burning the exposed skin :(
The neighbour came out and seemed really upset about the treatment of this poor dog. He seemes to be either chained up or left to wander the streets. 'They dont give a toss' was the exact words

It's been a couple of days now and this poor dog has been on my mind- I feel awful that he's left panting in the sweltering heat and why he wasn't taken for treatment before his legs got that bad.

I wish there was something I could do, but I don't know what!!! We are a very small town and there's no such thing as an RSPCA. Anyone have any ideas??

    Where do you live?
Surely the RSPCA covers the whole country, give them a call and see what they say.

If id seen it, i think that dog may end up 'going missing'!

I seriously considered dog-napping him, but I didn't want to be known as the mad cat lady who kidnaps dogs!!:D

We live in a small town in the west coast of scotland- A ferry ride away from any decent shops :rotfl:I will have another look for an RSPCA organisation nearby, but i've been told there isn't one and I can't seem to find one. Think I will give them a ring to find out.

Another hot, sunny day today-I hope he's ok :(

Thanx for the number- I've just phoned and they're going to get someone to look into it.

Hopefully the poor dog will get the help he needs.

Ok, did they say they would get back to you about it? I'd keep chasing them up aswell to make sure it gets done!

Hope this poor little mite gets the care he needs

My experience with the SSPCA is they are pretty good.
A lot of people don't realise the RSPCA is only for England and Wales. Other parts of the country have thier own Charities for animal welfare.

Yeah and consequently a lot of Scots donate to the RSPCA because their adverts are still on our TVs. *grr!*

Edit: sorry, forgot to actually reply to OP! I hope the dog gets some help, please keep us updated if you hear more

They took my name and number (and the poor dogs name and address) but they didn't say if they'd get back to me. If I dont hear anything in the next couple of days I will phone back to chase them up.

I just don't understand these people who would rather see their pet suffer than take them to the vets  My cat is well known to the vets (quite accident prone) and I would pay any amount of money to make sure he was happy and healthy. He's currently rolling about on the fresh bed sheets that i've just put on, but I love him and would do anything for him :D

Fingers crossed that they do something for the poor boy.

I was the same- i didn't realise that Scotland had a seperate charity. Everything seems to lean towards the RSPCA. To be honest i'm glad I dont have to deal with the RSPCA- they dont seem to be highly rated from what i've seen :(

I am quite sure the RSPCA put the same professionalism into caring for animals as the USPCA in Northern Ireland and the SSPCA in Scotland. You may hear the odd story where they haven’t been up to scratch but steps are taken to make sure it does not go wrong again and as they are a bigger charity they may have more cases overall.
