We have 2 cars, a 59 plate Mini Clubman and an 04 plate Focus TDCi. The Mini gets done by local immigrant guys here in Newark at £10 and they do a a DAMN fine job! whereas the Focus gets done by me as we dont care about it too much!!

I think the people on this thread (apart from those that actually clean their car) explain why a couple of the cars I've looked at for sale this week that haven't been valeted yet are absolutely DISGUSTINGLY dirty inside.

I never take mine through an automatic carwash, but until i moved recently I took it to a local handwash place, £4 a time. Now I've moved and have a drive and outside tap, I wash it myself, every Sunday.

  • i love washing my car, very sad but true, i can spend hours on it.

my every 6 month car washing recipe..

    Autoglymn bodyshampoo

    autoglymn super resin wax

    Autoglymn extra gloss protection

soft sponges, chamois, and polishing clothes

spray car with hose getting rid of most of the grit that is sitting on the paintwork working from top to bottom. Next use sponge an body shampoo wash each panel individually turning/ rinsing the sponge often. wash the soap off each panal before moving on to the next panel

when the car has wash break out the resin wax, apply to each panel

    leave for 30 - 60 mins

wipe off with polishing mitt/ cloth

now use extra gloss polish - apply to car avoiding glass, the longer you leave this stuff on the better..remove

sit back an enjoy shiny car

half and half! if we are passing and have cash on us we will pay for the local farm shop to do it as only £5 and they do a much better job of the alloys than we can ever do..however there is a bit of damage on one of the side skirts and i am wary of their power washer doing more damage so wont use for the meantime. If it is nice weather i will do it (am actually going to do it tom!)..once we have our tap outside and our power washer on it will be fab to do at home!
Hoovering i always do myself..i never let it get in such a state it would need valeting tbh. I am quite anal with it though and when i give it a 'proper' clean the carpets have gaffa tape stuck on them to get them just perfectly bit free:rotfl:

Only ever been to a hand car wash place once, the idiot used a rag which must have been dropped on the floor several times and scratched my car to f*ck.... Now I only ever do it myself.

Used to clean my cars all the time when i still lived at home with that Flash hose attachment thing. Don't have an outside tap/hose these days so i nip 2 mins down the road to BP and do it in their jet wash myself. Only £2.98, though i've only actually cleaned my car twice in the last 12 months. £6/year ain't bad.

I got some of that, OH has banned me from using it, says its petrol based or something and will ruin the paintwork :(

I used to go through a car wash with my old car but noticed I was getting lots of light scratches on the doors.

I hate washing the car, I hate the smell of the various products you have to use AND the annoying white residue round lights and petrol caps after you have flogged yourself doing it all.

wow, well I have been using this spray for years, infact i just spent ten mins doin the car, never had a problem. The shopping channel advises on not using on the windscreen and some cars experience glar from other driver front lights, but again, never had a problem. I will have to look at the ingrediants, petrol you say, wonder why I have not been burnt then :)
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!
