Do You Wash Your Own Car??

Is it worth spending a tenner on a lambs wool mitt? Or is the microfibre just as good?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Lambs wool has to be the ultimate, but microfibre is still okay and better than a sponge.0

I wash both our cars by hand regularly, I never see the neighbours washing their cars although they do look clean so guess they must be using car washes.0

I got some of that, OH has banned me from using it, says its petrol based or something and will ruin the paintwork
I used to go through a car wash with my old car but noticed I was getting lots of light scratches on the doors.
I hate washing the car, I hate the smell of the various products you have to use AND the annoying white residue round lights and petrol caps after you have flogged yourself doing it all.0 -
White residue from waxes can be avoided by putting masking tape over the appropriate areas. Also there are some products which don't leave white residue, like AutoGlym aqua wax, but these usually tend to not last as long.I hate washing the car, I hate the smell of the various products you have to use AND the annoying white residue round lights and petrol caps after you have flogged yourself doing it all.
If you mean white residue as in water marks, the only ways to avoid these are to thoroughly dry, or to douse with filtered water. (Once had neighbours who thought I was bonkers to complain about their kids squirting water guns on the car and couldn't understand the concept of water marks). The best thing to dry a car with is a waffle weave microfibre towel.0 -
My old car was a light blue/purple metallic and didn't show the dirt at all, but I've just become the owner of a metallic black car and it shows every grain of dust.
Looks like I'll have to update my car washing technique."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
when we haven't had a chance to do it we tend to use Tesco's £2.00 basic car wash and they use soft brushes so no scratches even though hubby has vinal transfers on his car. He does however prefer hand washing it as it gets every nook and cranny clean.0

My van has never been washed since the day I got it nearly 4 years ago. It's got to the point where it doesn't seem to get any dirtier.Nothing to see here, move along.0

I have never washed mine. I am thinking about doing it though lol
No car washes for me after watching final destination 4 lol
Why is it when I get my car washed, it rains the same day or the next day?0 -
I'm sure that's part of why vans rust like anythingCoveredinbees!!!! wrote: »My van has never been washed since the day I got it nearly 4 years ago. It's got to the point where it doesn't seem to get any dirtier.
