Pursue it as much as you can - Tesco's are appalling and their attitute to customer care stinks... Had to wait 20 minutes today at the customer service desk - listening to two staff members discuss where to have lunch, before someone came to sort me out.

That is disgusting. Nobody has properly read your letter. You have been treated dismally.

No-one should speak to a customer like that. Yes, sometimes you can get frustrated with a customer but to swear is unacceptable. DO NOT GIVE UP. I cannot believe that Tescos are happy to employ such a person.

Make sure to persue the matter - you should never be spoken to by anyone like that, let alone a shop assistant.

    Let us know the outcome.

I quite agree - you should never be spoken to by anyone like that. Full stop.

However, I'm a bit confused by your "let alone a shop assistant" comment - would it be acceptable from a doctor? bank manager? airline pilot? headteacher? Or are you suggesting that the lowly shop assistant should know their place in the pecking order, perhaps whilst tugging their forelock?

I would have complained too...we all have off days...and customers are not always right...but no one has the right to tell someone to f off.
I know in some places I have worked that the bosses are sometimes pleased to get "evidence" to get rid of a problem member of staff.

Indeed. Let's hope that they meant that a shop assistant should know better as their job mainly consists of dealing with customers (as opposed to e.g. someone who works in a warehouse most of the time)...

  • i did think you should get over it - its hardly the worst thing in the world is it ??? if it happened to me i'd have just said F you - and not gone back to the store, but its when they dont even bother to deal effectively with your complaint that would wind me up - now i think you should keep going and make them listen!!

I once called currys to complain. All I wanted to know was when I was getting my item and they said they couldn't tell me, so I said let me speak to a manager, and he said 'f£cking customers' but I happened to be recording the call. Wrote to currys, enclosed a copy of the call
Off topic...but you realise it's a criminal offence to record a telephone call without the consent of both parties?

You were on thin ice there - if Curry's had bothered to solicit a legal opinion, you'd have been in hot water.

I know this isn't a law site, just the BBC, but:-
"It is not illegal for individuals to tape conversations providing the recording is for their own use, under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA).
It is a civil, not criminal, matter if a conversation or e-mail has been recorded and shared unlawfully.
If a person intends to make the conversation available to a third party, they must first obtain the consent of the person being recorded."

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
