  • Any advice appreciated on this please.... We are a family of 4 (37, 31, 11 & 2) moving to Orlando in January.... I am there for work unfortunately.

Health cover seems so expensive so I'm wondering if I could take out what is normally perceived as holiday cover for emergencies (if I am there for work, rather than on 'holiday' would we be covered?). If we need to see a doctor I would then pay (and claim back by the company).

I'm a director in the company btw so taking the costs a little more seriously as its basically me paying for them. Best I've found is about £850 per month for standard health cover.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Quite apart from the undesirable consequences if you get caught trying this... surely most 'holiday' travel policies have a fairly modest limit on the number of consecutive days you can spend abroad which would, I suspect, be much shorter than the period of time you will be working in Orlando.

I'm afraid insurance cover in the US is just very expensive, but surely your company will cover this cost and it will not be huge in terms of the total cost of sending you (and your family) to work in Orlando?
  • I'm going on holiday without my husband in April next year, I've got insurance with good cover for my pre-existing conditions. However, jut before I am due to leave my OH is due for an MRI check up on his prostate cancer and a check up with his urology team. Although we are very happy that nothing untoward will have developed I am worried that if something is, I may not be covered if I need to cancel my holiday. I don't want to flag it up unnecessarily to the insurance company but I don't want to get caught out should something mean I can't go away. Do I need to declare it?
  • I am off to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Philippines for 128 days and need some travel insurance advice.

I have an annual policy for trips up to 90 days (expires after I return to England). Is there anyway to combine this with a single trip policy?

Otherwise, any suggestions for companies offering insurance for this long? I'd need to declare a medical condition (nut allergy with anaphylaxis)

    Thanks for the help!

I've just had a read through my policy & it says that as long as your husband's medical practitioner will confirm that there was "no substantial likelihood" of his condition getting worse when you took out the insurance, you'll be covered. I'd read your's very carefully, although I'm not sure what you can do about it at this late stage. There's no mention on mine of having to inform them about any forthcoming tests.

Suggest you talk to your existing insurer - assuming you are happy with them - as most should be able to extend the cover provided for an additional premium. If not, or it is excessively expensive, then shop around for a better deal.

Didn't realise that nut allergy (which is under control) counts as a pre-existing medical condition for insurance purposes but, if it does, wouldn't have thought it would have a huge effect on your premium, if any. In any case, if you can extend your existing policy, the issue won't arise presumably.

Can you buy single trip travel insurance as a couple if you live in different homes or would you need to buy separate policies?

Hi everyone, I was just reading the "11 need-to-knows" and #2 caught my eye. I'm going away for a couple of weeks in just under a couple of weeks and was hoping to buy a single trip policy. Should I use the dates of travel or should I book insurance from today until after the trip has ended? I'm sure it's the former, but I thought it's worth checking.

****I've taken an annual policy so the above doesn't apply any more****

Just to let other Nationwide Flex Account members know, if you wish to upgrade to world-wide insurance (advertised at £40 per year), you can actually get a world-wide excluding USA & Caribbean for just £20. Same 5* Defaqto rated cover. 12 month policy, 31 days per trip.
  • Usually it's the dates of travel - so the company knows how long you will be away and therefore charges accordingly.

But by taking out the policy today you should be covered, say, if you needed to cancel the holiday tomorrow for some (acceptable) reason.

Hi I have a policy for the past 3years with virgin/insure and go but I'm being told to take out a new policy which starts from a higher price £56+, when it's been roughly £28+. The staff I talked to on the phone last year misunderstood me and they said now I'd need to start again last policy ended this October. Also the company didn't send me any information to inform me of anything by way of post email telephone call not anything. What can I do about this. I think I was just dealing with a moody drama queen staff member last year frustrated because I didn't understand everything and he stopped the automatic payment. What rights do I have? The company says they are going to listen to the telephone call. I recorded the call with the female agent today. She even stated that he made notes on the call that I still wanted the policy but he also said not automatically renewed, which I think he was just trying to be clever and trick me to take out new order process which is more expensive.
