Travel Insurance Article Discussion

Hi,
Later this year I will be going backpacking for several months and am currently trying to assess the best options available regarding travel insurance  unfortunately the article discussing travel insurance does not cover backpacking... Having had a quick look online there appears to be 2 options: annual policy (~£30) or "backpacking" policies (>£100 for 6 months). What are the differences? Why is one so much more than the other? Is there something important that I have missed? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!0 -
Annual policies will probably cover you up to around 31 days per trip so would not be suitable if you are going for longer.0

We have an annual policy with LV that covers our existing medical issues, one being an abdominal aneurysm. We can stay away for up to 90 days.0 -
Thanks Martin and team for this. Our annual policy is due for renewal on 10th August. So read your info first. Sadly, the firm 'Leisureguard', best for worldwide for the 65-69 group, only go for a max of 31 day trips. We love travelling and our next trip (leaving late September to early November) is almost 6 weeks in duration. We are retired and enjoy longer holidays. So many insurance firms do not allow for the longer term traveller. We found out about Annual Travel Insurance through a Which? report about three years ago and have found no one to beat them - as yet! I always do a check when any of our insurances is due!
So, next time you do a review, could you include firms which allow for us to take trips of more than 31 days? We also are mindful of this when choosing house insurance, as the house is left uninhabited for a longer period.0 -
Following the recent tragic events in Tunisia - should I be looking for travel insurance that includes cover for terrorism in the policy?"Try to look after the pennies - the pounds will look after themselves" - wise words from an old uncle ...

You mention the travel insurance that comes with some premium bank accounts such as Nationwide's FlexPlus, but travel insurance is also included in some home insurance policies. I am thinking of switching our home insurance to Direct Line, who came up with a very competitive quote and their policy includes what seems to be very good worldwide travel cover. I'd be interested to know if this meets your minimum cover criteria.0

I have always gone with directline for my annual insurance, they seem to be one of the best.
I need to renew today, as Im flying out today. But on their website, they have said they are not insuring new customers ! Have they gone bust ?!

They are renewing those who's policy as recentky expire, which includes me, but I'm not sure if its a good idea to renew with them now ?
Also, can I take out a policy, for a trip starting today ?0 -

Looking for travel insurance for a a couple for trip to family in Australia. Most companies quoting around £350 with the exception of Anzplus.com at £140. As this is such a big difference has anyone else used this company or has any experience of them. They seem to meet the necessary financial body requirements. But is it to good to be true.0

'most quoting 350' just doesn't sound right...
We have annual worldwide excluding USA with LV for just over £200. We are both just over 65.
I have never heard of Anzplus.
