Travel Insurance for the over 75s is generally very expensive but the Nationwide Travel Insurance packaged with their FlexPlus and Flex Accounts is very cheap!
Once you hit 75, you are charged just £50 extra per year on Nationwide's multi-trip policy.
Nationwide's travel insurance is underwritten by UK Insurance Limited, who also underwrite similar policies with RBS and NatWest. So, if you are with RBS or NAtWest, you may want to check on whether they will grant cover to the older traveller on similar terms.0 -
Hello,
I'm 37 & about to embark on a 12 month(ish) round the world trip & been looking for good deals on Travel Insurance. I got a quote from Trailfinders for about £450 but the main thing that it included was up to £10,000,000 for liability including repatriation. Saw a similar one from worldwideinsure.com.
Do people think this is a bit excessive or is it worth it? Anyone had any similar experiences that they'd like to share or found any better deals?
Many thanks

We took out a higher level travel insurance policy with Holiday Safe as 'recommended' on this website. We had a backpack stolen containing an iPad and cameras etc. The total cost of the stuff stolen was £908.
Holiday Safe's Travel Claims Facilities gave us a settlement figure of £75.93!
The items were all good as new. They deducted 80%-100% for wear and tear.
People should be aware of this practice. I used to be a Travel Agent and work at Citizens Advice and was shocked.
I will never take out insurance with Holiday Safe again and suggest everyone should think very carefully before they do.0 -
Dear VJC,
Thank you for your post, my name is Amber Howard and I am the Brand Manager for Holidaysafe.
Firstly I would just like to sincerely apologise that you were dissatisfied by the outcome of your claim. Unfortunately our cover is not new for old, and so our appointed claims assessors, Travel Claims Facilities, do apply a sliding scale of wear and tear to personal possessions claims.
If you would like to make an official complaint, or ask for your claim to be reconsidered, all of the details of how to do so are on the last page of your policy wording.
I will pass your comments over to our Claims team, and ask them to review their wear and tear scale for electrical items, to ensure we are offering the best outcomes possible for our customers.
Once again please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience.
Kind regards,
Amber.“Official Company Representative

Hello I have few questions about travel insurances. I am thinking to get for myself an annual with alpha or coverwise? Does anybody have experience with it? I will be travelling to Brazil with connection flights at USA. We will spending sometime out of the airport. Should my police include USA or it isn't necessary as the final destination is Brazil?
I am also looking for insurance for my boyfriend who lives in Greece, whatever I manage to find till now is over 100 euros for single trip. Does anybody know any reasonable insurance for non UK residents?
We bought our tickets from separate airlines. Flying with ryanair to madrid and then to Brazil. Would the policy cover us if for any reason ryanair cancel the flight and we won't make to Madrid for the next flight? It isn't exactly a connection flight and we are arriving to Madrid almost at midnight and our flight to Brazil is at 9:00 am. We won't have the chance to find another flight in between if something goes wrong.
Thanks0 -

Hope someone might give me some advise! I have booked to go to Portugal at the end of October and have just had tests which show I will probably need a stent inserted to help with a heart condition. I dont know when the procedure will be done and therefore dont know when to try and get cover.
I know I will have to declare a pre-existing medical condition but should I try and take it out before the procedure or after. Also, any suggestions on who to go to for the insurance would be welcome.
"If at the time of purchasing this insurance or booking your journey (whichever is later) you have any existing medical conditions, you should discuss your travel plans in advance with your doctor.
1 You will be covered for claims arising directly or indirectly from any existing medical conditions, so long as your doctor can confirm that at the time of purchasing the insurance or booking the journey (whichever is later):
• you were fit to travel;
• your medical condition(s) were stable and there was no
sign they would get worse;
• you had not been diagnosed as suffering from a terminal
illness
• you did not know that you would need medical treatment
or consultation at any medical facility during your journey;
If you need to make a claim arising directly or indirectly from any existing medical conditions, your doctor will be asked to confirm all of the above in writing.
2 You will not be covered if you travel against the advice of a doctor or where you would have been if you had asked for their advice before beginning your journey."
edit: sorry, I see you were travelling in October, so I'm too latekoru0 -
The first leg of my return journey to the UK was cancelled by the airline (a USA domestic flight). They booked me on their next flight, but that arrived too late to catch the second leg from Los Angeles to London on a different airline. I had to buy a new ticket for that second leg and HolidaySafe Premier did NOT cover that. I think a travel policy that does not cover the return journey does NOT qualify as a "Top Value" policy, and I would even go so far as to say it doesn't even qualify as "Travel insurance".0

Isn't that standard with most travel policies? That the journey has to originate in the UK. Though the interpretation should be scrutinised. If you are within the dates that the policy covers, I would agree that you should be covered, unless specifically excluded.0 -
