Have just taken out Annual European cover with RIAS.Had Single Trip with them previously. We are both over 65 yrs , declared hubby's daily use if an inhaler and my various Dr/hospital visits this year for Ocular Migraine and dizziness re an ear infection, all are noted on the policy .Total Policy cost is £145. Will be having 3 holidays and think this is great value.Tried Ehic Plus and SAGA and both were considerably higher, SAGA asked for information re any visits to a Dr in the last 2 years.I mentioned I had seen my Dr re dry skin on my foot and was told that would be noted on the policy as Athlete's Foot as it was the only foot problem that was on their list......How many travellers have had to declare Athlete's Foot to their insurers before travelling?
  • I'm confused re this product as the overview says its for people that have breast cancer and yet which you read the policy wording it says that it doesn't cover pre-existing conditions including cancer? As every other policy I've seen says exactly the same in their small print, I am struggling to see any benefit in "Insurepink" arrangement at all?
  • I have annual insurance expiring at the end of March. I also have holidays booked in May and July. If, before the current insurance expires, I became ill enough that I knew I couldn't take one of these holidays would it cover these future holidays?
  • Hi,
We recently took out an annual policy for travel to Europe in the summer.
However, since then we decided to book another week away in a month or so and therefore called them back to change the period of cover to ensure we would be covered for both holidays.
This in itself wasn't a problem but they reduced the period by a day because of the leap year next year! Surely a years cover is exactly that, a year! How petty!!

Grey area: you should arrange some kind of travel insurance valid fo these holidays more or less as soon as you book them.

This kind of situation is one reason why I am very dubious about annual policies...
  • After a big fall of snow in Andorra which caused a closed French border & massive travel delay, and a missed flight home, I'm sat in a Barcelona hotel room, reading the fine print.
I'm only covered for delay on my outbound trip, on my protect your bubble policy.
My friend is covered on his tesco insurance for 'missed departure', which sounds promising, for reclaiming the extra costs.

I'm not sure the policy deserves to be recommended by MSE.
  • In addition to all the comments above about Holiday Safe, can I just point out that their annual policies do not cover cruise holidays unless you purchase the additional cruise extension.
  • This is my first post on this forum and I signed up specifically to share an experience which was eductional (and expensive) for me with anyone who travels abroad. In one sentance the point of this post is; if you miss a connection on the domestic part of a journey, your travel insurance is not going to cover the cost of rebooking.

I have just returned with my son from a skiing holiday in Val Thorens in the French Alps. On the return journey a choatic coach station, concern about the safety of my seven year old son and my lack of French all conspired to mean that I missed the coach connection from Val Thorens to the local train station. The cost of an unscheduled hotel room and rebooking the journey at short notice was Euros 900 for the two of us.

I was taken aback to realise that the RETURN portion of a journey is commonly not covered in a standard winter cover travel insurance!! When it snows on the resort - blocking the roads; you are on your own.

Morover, when I checked this with the insurer they told me that travel insurance only covers you for disruption and the cost of travel at the point of "international departure!!!" Anything that happens in France, Italy or wherever before you fly or board to cross an international boarder; you are on your own.

From now on I am going to be booking taxi's through an established taxi firm. I will be allowing several hours leeway to get my connections. I will be booking flexible tickets, just in case something happens on the way there or back.

I suspect most people reading this did not know that, (with very specific exceptions around the point of international departure,) they are not covered if they miss a connection for the cost of all subsequent parts of the journey. The fact that you have travel insurance might lead you to think you are covered in the event of something untoward happning on the journey. Learn from my experience; in most cases YOU ARE NOT COVERED.

  • Failed at trying to find reasonable travel insurance for a single trip in August this year for myself, husband, 14 year old son and 18 year old son for Ireland (Southern). Family policies generally only cover families with 2 adults, group policies are expensive as I suppose they cater for groups of friends travelling and one family policy for 3 of us and one individual policy for eldest son works out really expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Holiday Safe - Natural Disaster Cover - Very limited

After explaining in a previous post how a natural disaster (flooding) cost me an additional £500 to finally get home and my Holiday Safe Premier annual multi-trip (31 days per trip) only paid out £150 leaving me £350 out of pocket I have just got my offer letter to renew! You can imagine what I've done with that.

Checking again on the back of the letter they sent me it says, as part of a list of things covered:
"If a natural disaster occurs [Section B10] £1000 max Excess £60"

When you find/dig-out and read B10 on their website it says:
"B10 If a natural disaster occurs [page 24]
Cover for alternative accommodation in the event your pre-booked accommodation is damaged by a natural disaster."

What that initial statement means is the above! I think the word 'limited' should be added to that initial statement as it is very misleading!!

Our accommodation wasn't damaged we where at the airport ready to fly home!

When the airport flooded we had to pay for last minute additional accommodation at a premium as all rooms where booked as all stranded people required rooms and last thing at night and then find our own alternative way home. You would expect the claim made by the first statement to cover this unless it has the word 'limited' included or better still 'VERY LIMITED'.

Everyone please check all statements made by Holiday Safe in the small print that may be applicable to you. I am so surprised Money Saving Experts are recommending this companies holiday insurance.

As you may have gather I am very peeved about this deception in the top level text list of cover.
