    Hi,

We're working on our site to make sure you all have the chance to apply for one of the fridges. As you can see, we've had a huge response to the promotion!

Although we're used to large volumes of traffic to our website, we were seeing several times the usual volume.

We know it's frustrating but please bear with us - we want to make sure you ALL have the chance to apply for one of the fridges. We've especially extended the offer to 12th July so nobody should miss out.

In the meantime, thank you for your interest - and also your patience.

And all the very best for the draw!

Page is not loading - it just says the site is being upgraded, please try again later.

I also notice that you can't apply for the trial if you have a pacemaker, or if "anyone who may visit your house over the next two years has a pacemaker"!!

So does the old codger's pace maker kill the fridge or does the fridge kill the old codger? (Thinks - Who shall we invite to tea)

Talking of dead fridge freezers - would this be one of those FF's that turn off (end of story) if the internal temperature of the room falls to the fridge internal temperature; thus allowing the freezer to slowly defrost? I never really did understand this but presumably the motor/compressor could only be on or off.
Anyone know if the reduced cycling technology called an induction motor is available for freezers yet. (ie The motor does not turn on and off if it can avoid it - it is able to run slower or faster in an intelligent fashion - I notice LG is advertising such an application for a washing machine; something that has to go faster of slower depending on the point in the wash cycle). The theory is that a big freezer does not "flicker" the lights as it turns on and the motor lasts much longer and operates more efficiently - Air conditioning is another application where the users don't want full on blasts of cold air most of the time.
    Are you sure?

Back in 2003 when I first got broadband from AOL at the time, it was just a modem with a USB connection to the PC. No separate power connection meaning the modem powered off every time the PC was shut down.

The modern BT exchanges have a computer that monitors & tests your connection. If the grotty conditions of BT's "local loop" copper wire causes too many errors, the computer steps down your data rate until it gets an acceptable level of errors. (The faster it tries to go the greater the chance that some "noise" on the line will make your router mis-hear the message package sent)
Once the computer has got your line working reasonably accurately again it will wait a couple of days and see if it can step up your speed. So if you have been down graded by say 3 steps it will take perhaps a week to get back up to top speed (for you) again.
The web site "Thinkbroadband" allows you to speed test and store a graph of the results for your line. If you do it regularly you will find steps of speed on your graph as you get knocked back by (say) thunderstorms, or next door's Christmas lights, causing interference on your copper telephone wire.

The dimensions of each appliance are as follows (all measurements in cm):
    • Indesit Combi-Static Non Frost Free Fridge-Freezer (model no PBAA27D) – H200 x W60 x D65.5
    • Indesit Upright Freezer (model no RZA61D) – H175 x W60 x D65
    • Indesit Under-counter Fridge (model no RLA36D) – H85 x W50 x D62
You should ensure that these dimensions can be accommodated not only where you intend to keep the appliance but also by the routes for getting the appliance into your home (i.e. through any doors, up/down stairs etc). Please note that in addition to these dimensions you should also allow 150mm of room in the space it will be kept for the door to be able to open and close.

Until about 1973 British kitchen work tops were only 0.500 (half a meter) deep and then we standardised on the European 0.600. Most appliances then standardised on a foot print of roughly 0.600 x 0.600.

Presumably as long as the neighbouring work top only juts out 0.600 then a fridge freezer jutting out 0.655 would have room to open its door to at least a right angle with the neighbouring work top, or are you saying that that the rounded door is thicker than 0.055? (as that is only a little more than 2 inches in old money perhaps the appliance would need to be pulled another 0.100 into the room, making crashing into the 6 inch projection increasingly likely?)
Can someone with one of these beasts measure the thickness of its front door?

Well I've just measured the space occupied by my 35 year old Indesit larder fridge (Generally known at the time as the Dagenham dustbin of the Italian fridge industry:T) :-
    0.640 Wide
    0.630+++ Deep
    1.905 High

So that is me out of the competition by nine and a half centimeters - less than 4 inches in old money.(There is a beam that runs across the kitchen above the fridge):(

Any one know where one can buy a larder fridge these days with a small freezer compartment?- we have a chest freezer in the shed just outside the kitchen door.

Thank you for coming on here and letting us know, its made me very happy that you've extended it as we really need a freezer anyway so at least ill have more of a chance to apply now. :)
  • well they have taken it down with this reply.

Thanks for taking an interest in our 'free fridge' offer.

We've had a fantastic response with over 20,000 completed applications - it's great to see so many people interested in cutting back their energy use. Unfortunately, as a result, our website is still experiencing a lot of traffic.
For this reason and to avoid further frustration we are removing the page until we can resolve the problem in order to meet the demand.
We are very sorry about the issues that have arisen we will do our best to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. We will amend the closing date to ensure everyone has a chance to apply. We will confirm when the offer is live again via the MoneySavingExpert website.

I read it as needing the extra measurement adding to the width, so that the door has room to swing open. The depth measurement should be the space needed from the wall it's up against to the front of the door (based on how the measurements of the last freezer I bought (upright, so has a front door) worked.

    Hi,

I applied online OK and yesterday had a cold caller on my doorstep from npower at least he got that much out before my husband said "no thanks, my wife deals with all that, we aren't changing and I'm busy!"

Could this have been to do with the freezer (and hubby has rejectedour chance of a successful application), a coincidence or are they doing naughty things with all those names Martin has kindly fed them?

Incidently, I have had various companies offering chance to change to them call at my door but this is a first for Npower - hence my suspicion. I hope its not going to be only those who change to npower who get a chance at the offer.

Anyone else had a cold caller from Npower since signing up?

Not since signing up no, but npowers cold callers are, sadly, irritatingly common. They've called on me several times in the last few years. Also cold callers indiscriminantly do a whole street at a time, not individual houses, so I think it's an unlikely way to use your details.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(

Can anyone confirm what happens once the trial is over? Do they come take the fridge away?

I work for Npower, and was one of the lucky few that got selected to receive a Free Frost free fridge/freezer, and after reading some of the comment's on this page, it really is HUGE! its 6ft 7inch high, so you really need to make sure that you have space in your home and doorways to get it in! I must admit, it's a very attractive fridge, and the door's really are Capsule like, and are about 5 inch thick, so when making sure you have enough room for the fridge you have to consider the door as well. I wanted this in silver like the picture show's but i got told they have only manufactured them in white at the moment, so i couldn't get silver, but even the white is a nice shade of white!

My fridge was in for about 4 weeks before they came to fit the modem at the back of the fridge, and then the plug which goes near your router, gets the info wireless from the modem at the fridge, and transmits the info back through the internet router. Only took 2 mins to complete as well, and to be honest hasn't slowed my internet connection or anything so is fine.

Overall tho it's an amazing piece of equiptment, and to be honest for me to have to trial this until the end of march 2011, and then it be mine for free it's deffinatly a good deal. even if the one your trying to join is until 2012, it's worth while doing!
