In the interests of being 'green' can I ask that anyone that receives one of these fridges actively 'Freecycles' their old one, rather than let nPower take it away?
I suspect nPower will dump all the old fridges they collect into landfill; far better if some needy family nearby can make use of it.
Mods, could you add a paragraph to the original article encouraging people to Freecycle their old fridge if they get one of these free ones? (I know there's a bit about getting a fridge on freecycle but not about getting rid of your old one.)
I thank you,

Thanks for taking an interest in our 'free fridge' offer.
We've had a fantastic response with an exceptional number of completed applications - it's great to see so many people interested in cutting back their energy use. Unfortunately, as a result, our website is still experiencing a lot of traffic.
For this reason and to avoid further frustration we are removing the page until we can resolve the problem in order to meet the demand.
We are very sorry about the issues that have arisen we will do our best to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. We will amend the closing date to ensure everyone has a chance to apply. We will confirm when the offer is live again via the MoneySavingExpert website.0 -
Don't post personal details here.
You need to wait until the link is up and running again (see start of this thread) and then apply direct.0 -
Incidently, I have had various companies offering chance to change to them call at my door but this is a first for Npower - hence my suspicion. I hope its not going to be only those who change to npower who get a chance at the offer.Cheryl0

Anyone know when this will be working again? The drawers in the freezer of my current daewoo p.o.s have fallen to bits and the door shelves have broken in the fridge so it'd be great to apply for a new one lolMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Rubbish! Mains plug ethernet modulates the signal using the mains as a carrier, not RF
Well, yes. But as I understand it there have been problems with intermodulation products from the ethernet mains plug modules and switched mode power supplies (sometimes even the SMPS of the mains plug unit itself) and Ofcom have been involved in a number of cases. From Ofcoms website September 2009:Over the past 12 months Ofcom has received 143 individual PLT interference complaints; all from radio enthusiasts. Of these 121 have been investigated and referred to the apparatus supplier who has resolved 104. The solutions employed include replacing the apparatus, hard wiring and conventional wireless alternatives.

(I am not trusted with links yet!)
The issue has had more publicity (especially amoung radio hams) since then, so I would expect these figures to be far higher now. As you will see from the full article, Ofcom are denying there is a systematic EMC complience problem.
Incidentally, RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain) did a response to the Ofcom article above giving it a point by point kicking:

It doesn't help that a lot of the anti PLT articles have, shall we say, a lot of "feeling" attached, but dig down and you will find technical back up for the problems being claimed. I could go on but to be honest I am sure anyone who is really interested is capable of operating Google, try "PLT interference"......0 -
:(Have been trying to apply since saturday, knowing the closing date was today, but always get the holding page. Am I doing something wrong?
The site does say that the closing date will be extended, so that everyone get the chance to register, anyone know until when?0 -
The way I read it you just have to replace your old appliance with this one, you don't need to actually say Yes to "Do you need the old appliance to be taken away". I would've thought they prefer you answer No and get rid of the old one yourself.
Actually the way I read it (MSE page), it says nothing of agreeing to having your old model removed, just that you have the permission to remove and replace it if you choose to.
It is probably aimed at people who live in rented accommodation.0 -

1 - what you are doing wrong is continually trying to apply when you are getting the holding page which says you can't until they have sorted it out and put a message on mse
2 - they will say what the extended deadline is when they have the problem sorted and the site up and running again; until the problem is fixed they won't be able to set a deadline0 -

We're working on our site to make sure you all have the chance to apply for one of the fridges. As you can see, we've had a huge response to the promotion!
Although we're used to large volumes of traffic to our website, we were seeing several times the usual volume.
We know it's frustrating but please bear with us - we want to make sure you ALL have the chance to apply for one of the fridges. We've especially extended the offer to 12th July so nobody should miss out.
In the meantime, thank you for your interest - and also your patience.
And all the very best for the draw!

Maybe I am being peculiar here, but as this is meant to be an excllusive for MSEers, how are you going to ensure the fridges go out to the members, especially those that were members before the offer was posted?
I ask because I have seen this offer mentioned in several places across the net, and I have even seen it on Offer Oasis (though I cannot find it there now), and it would be slightly annoying to find the chances of loyal MSE members diluted by those rushing to join for this offer, or even applying from outside the site. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
