Wii Fit questions

Time spent being sedentary and weight gain in healthy adults: reverse or bidirectional causality? This interesting new research looks like it backs up what Taubes has been saying about becoming fat leading to more sedentary behaviour rather than sedentary behaviour leading to gain in weight, BMI, Fat mass or waist circumference and those who lost fat became more active.
Subjects who gained FM between baseline and follow-up spent significantly more time being sedentary at follow-up than did those who lost FM between the 2 measurements. In contrast, baseline sedentary time was unrelated to gain in body weight, BMI, FM, or WC.
Conclusion:BMI, FM, and WC may predict sedentary time, but our results do not suggest that sedentary time predicts future obesity. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

unfortunatley I can't use my Wii fit at the mo as have just (literally - came home at 1200 hrs) had my gall bladder whipped out

BUT I can say I didn;t lose weight but did lose 2.5 inches off my waist in 6 weeks of daily use (not for enormous lengths of time, 1/2 hr a day, and varying the exercises as new ones were unlocked).
There's just something about having the TV encourage me that appeals to my TVcentric life (v sad I know) that paying £35 a month to go to a gym 7 miles away just didn't motivate me to, me and OH have both cancelled gym and it's paid for itself in a month.
Only prob is it's gonna be at least a month beofre i can consider going back on it again

Hi, best of luck with the Wii, I cant wait to get one, I shall be treating my partner to one for christmas so hopefully he will share.

I was very interested in Ted's comments and links, I lost about 2 stone a year or so ago by following what I thought was my own version of the atkins but in fact is very similar if not exactly the same as the way of eating recommended by Ted so I can certainly vouch for its effectivness. I am very interested in the role of vitamin D and when I have time shall go back through the various posts and learn some more - thank you for a very interesting reply.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Little miss messiah - hope you're feeling better soon, thanks for taking time out to reply, too!!:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I've had one since they came out (end of may?) and I've lost 21lbs so far. BUT...I combined it with healthier eating (not dieting). You can't expect to do 30 min. of moderate exercise and then eat a big takeaway.

What I like best about it is that I can do it at home at my leisure, it has graphs that document my loss which motivates me and also if anyone else in the house is trying to lose weight it eggs on your competitiveness as you can compare BMI's.
Just my experience.0 -
Well done, Cornball!!:j sounds like it's kept you motivated-
I'll have to wait until the end of October to get my hands on DD's Wii - that's when her birthday is, it's cracking me up having to wait, as much as it's cracking her up not knowing what her present is going to be!:rotfl:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I really enjoy using our Wii Fit, and OH and I get a bit competitive over top scores which is extra motivation. If you're wanting it for exercise you do need to make sure you do lots of the aerobic games, at first it's dead easy to get into the habit of doing the balance games all the time (they are more fun as well!). I think it's helped me lose and maintain a little weight loss but I also walk to and from work and you need to watch what you eat. But they are ideal for people like me who hated PE at school and have never really got into exercise, I can't believe it's even had me jogging!Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

I'm thinking of getting a Wi Fit but for various reasons I'm trying to find out if the system lets you use it without determining your BMI.
Does anyone know pls?
thank you"Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

I've just sold mine, but I don't think you could get past that stage without it weighing something - you could just put the cat on there?
Gone ... or have I?0 -
From memory, the very first time you use it, it works out your BMI. You could as dmg24 states, just put a different object on, I suppose, but it would then be difficult to monitor your progress thereafter.
When you use it on a daily basis you don't have to keep on doing a body test, you can just go straight to the exercises.
Finally, if your reasoning is because you don't want someone else to see, I think there are options to password protect information (although I've never tried out that feature).0
