But look what happens when you exercise too??
    Pic from http://hubpages.com/hub/Muscle-Tone-Approach-vs-Muscle-Mass-Approach :o

And will my DH look like this if we get a Wii fit? It seems a much better solution than feeding him a caveman diet and having ketosis halitosis.:rotfl:

Can we go back to my topic now, or do we have to post more scantily clad exercise pics.....:p

ps I should add my DH isn't too far off this already - but he does need a tan to complete the pic,;) his body is muscular because he does a lot of moving around and lifting at work.:p Strangely enough he can eat pretty much what he likes and not gain weight.

edited to say DH, not DD!

  • Actually, with pics like that we can stay as off topic as you like ailuro :D:D

<<grr>> for your DD eating what he wants - just not fair!!

So what do you think to the wii fit from the (on topic) replies so far? Do you have any other queries about it?

I really didnt know the Wii was a weight loss machine? Thought it was sold for entertainment value.

maybe thats why I cant get one, not looking in the sports shops for them

I lose more wait (vaguely) when I play the wii sports - especially the tennis, as I tend (cos I am old) to throw myself around all over the place, whereas the younger ones just tend to use a more of a wrist action... (blimey, that sounds a tad rude..).

The wii fit is fun - think if you treat it as a game within the family, you are more likely to use it. And it should be fun. For upper body work - recommend wii Olympics, in particular the swimming - thought my arms would drop off!!

Personally think the whole wii thing should be fun - otherwise, lifes a chore.

I've decided to order one, I think it will be good for me, and also for DH to get some use from the Wii as he gets a bit motion sick playing normal games, I think the Wii we have on order will be the same for the 'normal' games.

From what I've read about wii fit I'd let my daughter have a turn of it, but don't want her getting hung up on losing weight, so probably would encourage her to stick to Mario and co. rather than setting up any profiles on Wii fit. Maybe around Christmas we will get her the dance mat based game - she loved her old dancemat that plugged into theTV.

Thanks for everyone's replies - I do agree that exercise should be fun, and available even when it's blowing a gale outside. Maybe the weight loss will happen cos I'm moving more, maybe I'll be motivated enough to lay off the chocolate a bit too!!

I'll keep you all updated, assuming I get one delivered.:D

  • I do think you need to be realistic about the potential for weight loss through exercise.

To lose 1lb a week requires a loss of 3500calories or 500calories daily.
So for me to lose 2.25lbs a week through exercise I'd need to lose 7700calories 1100calories daily

    This calculator
enables you to work out the calorie burning potential of walking
    3.5calories a minute
    35 10minutes
    350 100minutes X 3 =1050 =300minutes brisk walking at 2.5mph = 5hrs totally impossible for me with my condition.

I just don't believe anyone will devote that amount of time or energy on such a gimmicky idea.

By the way there is a difference between intensive weight training to produce the body in post 15 and the use of a WII.

If you follow a plan such as Dr D's you will not get into the level of ketosis that produces halitosis or one that affects your body odour. (well I never did) The most I got was some smelly pee but mostly using ketostix I only ever detected a faint trace of ketones.

Have fun with it by all means, certainly better than simply sitting in front of the TV or PC but as for serious long term weight loss you really need to understand what causes fat storage.

  • I think the wii-fit is great for getting people going with exercise etc, i wouldnt rely on the wii-fit solely for all my exercise but i do use it now and again, the jogging and step are good as well as the balance/yoga exercises, i combine this with different other exercises as well ie walking, exercise bike etc

you do need to eat a balanced diet though as well as doing regular exercise, to see a difference in weight.

Thank you ted for your insights, much appreciated

and by the way can we have more pics of the saucy men? mmm yummy lol

I can't say the Wii fit is responsible for any weight loss, BUT I have lost an inch off of my waist and and inch off of my thighs and I would credit it it with that!

Really love having the Wii fit and would recommend it if you are going to use it!
