I have read with interest the threads with regards to the Mackenzie Hall charlatans and their bullyboy tactics.
I read as I have now received a letter from said Company. I have no knowledge of any outstanding debt, nor (now) any inclination to call them.
May I suggest that anyone receiving a letter simply send the EMPTY pre-paid envelope as they will only pay the postage when the envelope is posted. Perhaps childish, but gives a little sense of satisfaction. This also applies to all junk mail I receive.
Thanks for your thoughts, whether educated opinions or pompous pantomine!

BEFORE even contemplating contacting this bunch of 'legalised criminals' may I suggest that you, or anyone else who is unfortunate enough to have been targeted by these vultures, have a good look at the DFW forum.

Like alot of you on here i recieved a letter from mackenzie hall today, the letter sounded like i was on the run or something, i made the mistake of phoning these people, and they were so rude, they told me i have an outstanding debt owed to sky television, from wait for it, 15 years ago, i do not owe this money as i have always been with cable television, i am really cross and upset as i dont know where they have had my details from, i asked them to send me proof through the post that i owe this money and they say they can't do that, (cos i dont owe it that's why), i am worried that they may hound me as they now know my address and telephone number, i have seeked advice and have been told to bin the letter as they are a bunch of chancers, i'm sorry but i don't think they should be allowed to do this to people, as it has caused me a great deal of distress today, i wont be talking to them again they will just have to take me to court, they say i owe £36 how pathetic is that. regards Beverley0

Do nothing - if they phone you, simply tell them that you intend to report them for harassment (log any telephone calls). You could, of course, write to them, but in your case I would simply IGNORE them.
They would be even sicker than I could ever have imagined if they take you to court for an 'alleged debt' of £36.00.
In the unlikely event, however, that they did take you to court any judge would laugh them out of court.
You are quite correct - this particular bunch of morons are indeed pathetic.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

Hi all
I got a letter from MH dated the 23rd July, and decided to research due to the very "dodgy" letter, before calling them. Thanks to you guys on this site, I've possibly saved myself from sending money for nothing.
I'm very doubtful I have any debts. I did have, pre 2000/01 but as far as I am aware they are all gone. I have only a debit card, a healthy savings account, and no credit cards. (Thanks to some tips from Martin lewis on GMTV)
I also just passed my driving test, and applied for a loan af 5000k with a company called First Direct, which was approved, but I did not take, and also with my Halifax bank for £6000, which was also approved, but again i did not take.
I have only been at my address for 7 months, before that, the address didn't exist, so I'm wondering how they got my details. One thing that may be suspicious, and please let me know if its the same for you, is that First Response (the finance company I applied with) have had a break in at their offices. I had a letter from them stating the details, that they would contact bank etc and I should do the same. Its the same for all previous AND current customers.
Maybe its just a huge coincidence, is there anyone else who have used this company, and had a letter from Mac Hall?
Well, thanks for the posts warning me of this, I will be calling them however, and recording the calls, maybe throwing in some "Section 40" lines, if they start to get nasty.
Your thoughts on the First Response break in would be good, maybe its happened before?
Regards

I work for the Kilmarnock Standard, the local newspaper to where MacKenzie Hall are based.
I'm looking for some of you who believe you have been incorrectly pursued by MH to get in touch and tell me your story.
Please only get in touch if you are prepared to give full details of your case etc, and your name.
I plan to take the individual cases up with MH so they need to be 100% genuine and you need to be sure you are in the right.
Many thanks
Stef
