I have also just recieved a letter, did a search on the company and it doesnt sound good.

I have never been in debt or had any financial issues so can i safely ignore the letter, the tone of the letter does really annoy me, surely they need to say what its related to and it has worried me :(

I too am having a bad experience with mackenzie hall I am actually paying back a debt yet i am still receiving threatening letters after a phone call that assured me i would receive no more and these letters are offeriing repayments less than i am paying yet I was told I am paying the minimum. I tried to phone them again but i could not get through to a person just a computer asking for an extension and a password I could not get on the website as they want an account name and password and could not text them as it was premium rate so in the end i sent an email of complaint please tell me im not alone on this one and that others are unfortunately receiving the same kind of treatment.

    Hello
I too seem to be being plagued by this Mackenzie Hall co. Over 10 years ago i had a store card that was not paid off fully and since then, intermittently, i have been 'tracked' down and sent letters by various debt companies, all of which i have ignored. In March this year i started receiving card like letters from Mac H which again i ignored. In the last week people with the same surname (not too many of them and alot of them are relatives of mine) in the town that i live have been contacted by some employee of this company (i presume this as he has not phoned me direct even tho i am in the book and on internet!) and he has been asking if they know me and what my telephone number is. He has also been making out that he is a long lost friend of mine and we have lost contact. Nobody has told him anything of any use and i find it amazing that he is going to such lengths and yet has not looked in the phone book where he could easily find my number. He has got info off the electoral role and has even contacted neighbours of people with the same surname as me. The debt is well over 10 years old, i have never made contact with anyone regarding re payment and i have never admitted to a debt. Can this company keep pursuing me in this manner and do they have any legal rights to have the money paid to them? Please could somebody advice. I seem to have dodged successfully so far but this guy is closing in now! Many thanks.

A few months ago my girlfriend received a letter from MH. It was photocopied and just said that they were acting on behalf f another company (not named) and that she owed £500. She contacted MH and they were really rude and wouldnt say who the debt was for, but would only say that it was from our previous address. She asked them for proof of this so called debt and their response was "you want to play it like that do you" and they put the phone down. She received another letter today threatening court action which could lead to bankruptcy, possesion of belongings or they could take her wages from her employer!!!!

We currently have an IVA which we applied for last year. All our debts were put together and we now pay one monthly affordable payment. If we new about this so called debt then this would have been added. If they could have told her who the debt was with then maybe it would have been one of our debts that the IVA was for???

I am going to ring my IVA practioner this week and see if they know anything about MH...... I will let you know how I got on...

    Hi

I have received in the post a letter form a company called Mackenzie Hall. They say they are trying to contact me concerning a 'personal matter'. The letter is on photocopied headed paper and a printed signature. So far I have not contacted them and have no intention of doing so until they contact me with a specific request.

I have done google searches and found they are a debt collection service specialising in old or unrecoverable debts. I did have a CCJ from approx 96/97. I knew about this from a credit report done in 97. However no-one has ever contacted me to sayI owe them money, am in debt, are chasing debt etc etc.

I have 2 questions as follows:

    1) Has anyone else come across Mackenzie Hall and what were their experiences?

    2) Where do I stand, legally, with having to pay CCJ?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I think mackenzie hall suck. I've received a letter saying I owe money on an old credit card which I paid off. They are saying that I have to pay it. Or they are taking me to court. I don't see how they can do this.

(sorry folks if this has already been answered-i'm at work at the minute, and i haven't got time to read through all the posts!!)
i posted sometime ago on another thread about how my partner had had the postcard through the door from MKH, asking him to contact them concerning an urgent matter. all we could think that this matter was was concerning an old barclays debt from a few years back, in which he'd come to an arrangement with them to pay off a reduced amount- which he promptly did. for a couple of years following this, every so often he'd get barclays on his back asking him to pay off this debt (which he'd already done!), it would even go as far as debt collectors...at which point he'd produce the cheque stub proving that he'd payed. it would go quiet, then it would happen again. this kept happening for a while and then we heard nothing for 2-3 years. assuming that the problem was finally sorted, he probably destroyed the evidence (we can't now find it). until we got the MKH postcard. after reading what was said on this site, he ignorred it. now he's had a letter off them confirming that they are after the old debt again, and that if he didn't make payment by 11 may, they would be going to court and adding extra charges, etc, etc. bit much considering the letter only arrived yesterday... anyway, what should he do about this? ignore them again, or is there some form of letter he should send? what other info would he need? it worries me that they may actually go to court over this, get black marks against his name, when he doesn't owe anyone anything!!! or are MKH just throwing their weight about and trying to be scary??? help!!!

I have decided not to ring my practioner as i believe MH to b nothing more than cowboys...

Today we recieved a letter from Rob Sanderson at MH saying that they have been instructed by Acquired Debt Limited to recover £526.14. (the letter wasnt photocopied this time)

I have looked on Google, Ask, mywebsearch, yell.com and BT. I cannot find any company that goes by that name nor does my girlfriend ever remember having anydebt with such a company or credit agency.....

I have seen on other threads that people have received letters from another company with this Rob Sanderson as the signer. It looks like he may have been found out before and registered himself under another company. I will try the watchdog website, they may have some info????

Anyway, I think that everyone should ignore these letters as I believe that they are trying their luck.

as anyone been taken to court? I haven't seen any threads that suggest that they have..... and you would have thought that someone would have...

I too have received a speculative letter today from Gerry Shaw at Mackenzie Hall, quoting reference numbers etc, but no actual demand for a repayment of debt... no doubt that is waiting at the end of the phone. I have a suspicion it is for an old student bank account from 7/8 years ago. Having read the threads posted it seems (unbeknown to me) the debt may have expired if I haven't acknowledged it in that time. My question is how is acknowledgement defined? I have had contact from other companies before, and a couple of years ago agreed a settlement over the phone with one of them. I requested confirmation of this in writing, and heard nothing more from them. I have never written to any of these companies to acknowledge the debt, but have once over the phone. Where does this leave me?

Hi i'm new here and have been reading the threads on MH i also had a letter from them last week asking me to urgently get in contact with them, didn't know who they were so phoned big mistake!!! It apparently was for a debt i had with Barclays bank (one i never knew exsisted) it is for about £500 and was from 1998, i was at the time living with my partner who got me in to quite a lot of debt by fraudently using my name to get credit for stuff, now i did have an account with Barclays but it was a basic thing no overdraft etc, infact i think the card was a visa electron so would only debit what was in account. The one thing i did have was a cheque book i am wondering if he got his grubby little hands on it and the above has happened, until MH got in contact with me i didn't know anything about this debt, and explained to them what i thought may have happened but obviously it was a long time ago and i can't remember what happened yesterday let alone 8 years ago!!!! but i did not admit to the debt being mine, the first person i spoke to was extremely rude and told me it was my fault i was in the position i did explain i was at the time only 21 and in an abusive relationship so didn't really know any better, that was also my own fault this guy had me reduced to tears i couldn't understand why he was being sooo horrible to me, i managed to get someone else on the phone and they told me if i got a crime ref. No. from the police it would be invesigated by the fraud team, i haven't yet gone to the police as i feel abit stupid and i haven't spoken to MH since either, what should i do now???????

    Please help :-(

Yes, I have had dealings with Mackenzie Hall with relation to Black Horse. They used extremely strong bully tactics and were very threatening and quite franlky did not give up until I went back to Black Horse and told them that I refused to deal with them. My issues were resolved overnight.

Try to gte to the bottom of why they are contacting you and then I would advise that you do not deal with them and go straight back to the originator of the loan/credit card or whatever it may be.

Good luck and don't let them get you down!!!
