  • Whitewash1970, I have been experiencing similar problems for a number of years. I would be interested to know if you had any success with stopping these letters. With regards to Jammin's comment on opening mail, if you have experienced baliffs knocking on your family door in the early hours then you are certainly not going to ignore them.

If you owe the money then I suspect the letters won't stop.

If you don't owe the money then just call them and say "I'm not the droid you're looking for" and ask them to stop harassing you, or you'll report them to the OFT and Trading Standards.

Or if you don't want to call them put it all in a letter.
  • Hi there

Like most of you I have received a letter today address to me, asking if I know the where abouts of me, from Mackenzie Hall.

I was about to call them but thought I would do a search first, luckily I did and have decided against calling them.

I am currently with a financial management company and was under the impression that all my debts are now settled. I recently was even granted credit and obtained a credit card to start building my file again. But this is what makes me wonder if this is why this company has gotten in touch with me?

This is probably some of the first activity on my credit file for a while and all of a sudden I receive a letter from this rogue company. After thinking about my debts, I remembered that there was an outstanding amount I may have never settled with Orange nearly 6 years ago when I lived away as a student.

Now, I have called my finanacial management company and have advised that under no circumstances should I contact this company.

But what I wanted to know is, how will I know if I have a CCJ against me with regards to the possible outstanding debt with Orange? And, if I obtain a copy of my credit report now, will this trigger this company again?

Also as I am sure the Orange debt last had any activity on it in around late 2005/very early 2006 how do I stand with the statute of limitations? Will this debt have possibly been statute barred by now?

    Thanks for any help.

At the moment the letter does sound a bit opportunistic hence why I feel no need to reply, but I am just concerned over how quickly chase up letters will follow also, as they obviously know what they are after but want me to chase them. Also concerned because I work for a banking company and don't want it to reflect badly.

Just ignore them. It's unlikely you'll get a CCJ. Wait until they contact you outlining what the debts is for, then smash em in with the Statute Barred letter.
  • Thanks for replying!

I have checked my credit file, no CCJ's registered and no record what so ever of Orange even on my credit report, am guessing it is so old it has dropped off? How long would it show for?

I haven't had any further letters from Mackenzie Hall, in the meantime I suppose I wait. But as there is no record of Orange on my file any longer is there anything they can do?

Six years after it was reported as defaulted

Your credit file is a bit irrelevant here. But it sounds as if it has been more than six years since the last acknowledgement by payment or in writing, and they haven't already got a ccj, so follow Gordon's advice above.
  • Hi folks

Just chipping in with another scenario. I received a letter today from MH for £200 for a debt owed to 3. Now I know this debt was acurred in 2002/03. ShouldI follow the advice above with the statute barred letter or just ignore them? They have even conveniently offered a direct debit scheme of £10 a month which is nice of them!!!

    Any help appreciated. Thanks

send statute barred letter to them
  • Yep, SB letter if you're confident that it's been more than 6 years since last payment or acknowledgement in writing! :)
