Twinklie hope you dont mind me joining in with questions, I just thought we'll be going through the same things for the next month or so.

Of course I don't mind...like you say, we are both in the same boat after all.

My first son cried for the first year of his life every night - puppies are easy peasy by comparison :)

The best advice i was given when we got our pup 9 years ago :o was to take the pup outside for toilet when they started to whine, even if they didn't need the loo, they still got taken out. :rotfl:He soon learnt that whining wasn't much fun.
Good luck, it only took a couple of weeks.

She's been such a greedy guts today. Ate all her breakfast, lunch and tea as soon as it went down. Eaten a whole tripe stick and part of another one AND had a kong stuffed with cottage cheese! Clearly I'm going to have to keep an eye on her waist line. She seems much less interested in me today...and more like a big girl.

I know it's what we want. BUT I can't help but feel sad I'm no longer her world!! Still she is a beautiful little girl and we can go on soon adventures in a week and a half!

    Hi Twinklie

He slept till 5.50am but I think it was only because he was too tired (kept him up until 11.15). Hows your little one sleeping now? Boris still hates me being out of his sight, does anyone know how long this lasts, this is all so new to me as I've never had a puppy before.

Hi there, I have a ten week old dobermann, who are known for being attached to their owners. In the past week we've noticed a difference in him being able to be apart from us for longer periods. We just had to do it slowly, literally from 5 minutes. They cry as they worry you won't be coming back, show them you will always come back and you'll soon see a difference.

Using frozen kongs to give him something to do works and thats how we'll prepare him for when we go back to work. Ours has been sleeping in our room since we got him but know we're happy that he's confident enough, he'll be put in the kitchen at night from this weekend. I don't expect it to be noise free, but he'll know where we are and we'll take him out for a loo break at around 4am.

Hope it goes well for you, what kind of dog do you have?

I intended to keep her up until about then...however, I fell asleep on the sofa at about 9.30pm and so guess who also napped!! Doh. Anyway, she was in her crate for 12 and fell asleep within 5 minutes of me going upstairs...very impressive. She woke up at about 4.40am though...but she is settling so much faster.

She hates you going out of her sight as well...but I can see improvements. But I'm with you...I'm looking forward to the more settled stage. Having said that...I wouldn't swap her for anything!

Boris is a Jack Russell/Patterdale Terrier cross, hes tiny and lovely and sooooooooooo cute:) Hes been alot better today and not complained when Ive had to pop out and put him in his crate. Mind you thats because hes had a treat everytime to keep him busy. He went outside himself to do a poo and I was so happy (sad isn't it). He's fast asleep at the moment so I going to let him sleep till about 9ish and then keep him going till 11.30ish in the hope I get at least 6 hours tonight. This just takes me back to when my kids were born, I even feel the same weight of responsibility! Going to have a look at these kongs tomorrow as someone else recommended them as well. Off for first puppy visit to vets tomorrow as well. Our vet will only do first injections at 9 weeks and then we have to wait for second lot. That means another month before I can take him out.

..... At the moment we are leaving but he doesnt seem to be improving at all. Really worried I'll do something wrong and turn him into a problem dog e.g separation anxity. ...............

Early experiences have a profound effect on a pup and leaving a pup to cry or howl is usually the foundation for future anxiety and separation problems.
A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.

    Hi Twinklie
Took Boris to vets today expecting a check up and he had his first injection, also he has to have his due nails cut off:( Bad night last night awake at 4.30, I came down and fell asleep on the sofa and Boris went back to sleep as well! Vets told me to leave him to cry even if its for 3 hours. Decided today to put him in the kitchen with door open on crate when Im out (puppy pads down). It always worrys me that he's crying for the toilet. Got to talk to OH tonight and make a decision on where Boris sleeps?
