Can somebody please confirm - got really confused a couple of pages back.

    Assuming I want to do a big R&R e.g. 360

    - Take that small 360 box that they say take to the checkout to get your 360 (do you do this or ask them to bring a 360 out first) and a copy of the game
    - Do I need to take a pic of the SEL (the yellow thing I am guessing?) and the poster advertising game of the week
    - Then go to checkout and let them put it through normally
    - Then pretend to check receipt and go over to CS saying you have been overcharged
    - Then casually notice the If things don't add up sign and hope for the best :)

I am just a bit confused about first two bits - do I get the 360 before the checkout or do I pay for whole thing at CS. As the 360s are kept in the back I believe.

Also are laptops also kept in the back and if so - do I need to take a picture of the SEL, or borrow it to prove my point so the managers cannot be sneaky.

    Thanks

i got charged twice for a carton of baby milk (£5.99 each) and cs refunded both amounts after me just saying i was charged twice so i guess being charged twice does count as an overcharge

Your CS were having a bad day (or a good day for you!).

they should only have refunded 1 amount

Technically it shouldn't matter whether or not they've already swapped the dummy box for the actual item before you ask for an R+R, just as long as you've paid for it and it's a done deal. Although personally I would prefer to have the Xbox under my firm grasp before I started the arguing. So I would suggest you pay for the dummy box at a normal till (not the CS desk), swap the dummy box for the actual Xbox at the CS desk, walk out of the door, pretend to check your receipt, and then walk straight back in.

It would be highly advisable to take a photo of all relevant SELs and POS material before you even buy it, as it has been known for staff to immediately rip them down before trying to wriggle out of an R+R.
  • Always check your receipt to see if you have been overcharged or missed offers on everything....

Get the items you want and then pay for them in the normal way, I get anything I want with my main shop, the cashier will sometimes say - 'go to the electrical dept' but you can say you want to pay all together, they will either get it or get someone to get it for you...

Then go to the CS desk and explain you have been overcharged, if electrical they will send you to the relevant dept if there is one...

Explain the situation and they will say OK I'll refund the difference...

Point out the poster that states 'If you have been overcharged you get a full refund And get to keep the item', the CS will say AHHHH OK Sorry about that and you get your refund!

Chances are they wont have removed the offer by then, its a chance you take if its gone ask for a refund as the offer was on when you picked up the item...

Look out for posters and ensure that the offer you think you arfe going to get is on the poster. The best thing to do is look at the bottom of the yellow tickets at their expriery, if you think the item is no longer on offer then check it on a self scanner (dotted around stores) or take it to the till and ask (with your shopping Id say) check the price and if you know its wrong buy it!

    Hope this helps

You are always entitled to a refund if you change your mind as long as the item is unused! (if the offer doesnt goe through wrong)

People have been sacked from Tesco for doing exactly the same thing, using their Clubcard when customers don't have one. Perhaps wombeling would be classed under the same rule? If you didn't collect the points they don't belong to you?

I do wonder how Tesco would prove it though other than catching you at it literally.

I don't know about "Wombling" but....
Last week at the checkout a customer did a quite sunstantial shop, and didn't have a club card at all. sa turned to me and said "have you got a card ?" I was trying for an R&R and wasn't planning to use my card, so said no. She then asked the next customer if they had a card, she said yes, passed it over and had her card loaded with the points from the customer in front of me.....so how does that fit in to you only being entitled to points for items you have bought yourself ?

This action was proposed, encouraged and actioned by Tesco staff....and I presume there would be video action to prove it !

we can only assume this member of staff didnt realise it was wrong.

Once in debenhams I didnt have my Nectar card so I said to give the points to the person behind me and they said they weren't allowed to do that...even with my permision!!

I also once had a gift card and after buying something there was some small amount less than £1 left on the card that they wouldn't give me in cash, I said to use it against the purchase of the person behind me and again they refused! Bizarre!

Alright - I am just giving up on misprices. (detailed rant follows so please feel free to skip)

I was unable to find a misprice at Tesco Brent Park for the past 6 weeks except for a 54p one and was aggravated by the new condition that they have added on to the Customer promise excluding items on special promotion being R&R' ed (i have already sent an email to tesco a week back, about this but nothing from them except to say that they are investigating)

Yesterday night while I was doing my normal shopping thought I might just check some of the recent misprices - no luck on the xbox, mp3, phones, meat, etc Having almost given up, I was going through the camera section when I noticed that the £15 off promotion on the Canon A410 was effective only till 5/9 but the SEL was still on. So, took 2 cases, checked at the barcode checker and sure enought - misprice !!! Quickly checked out my other items and headed over to the customer service to get the cameras. Got them at the higher price and I happily took all my stuff home and then came back with the cameras and receipt to claim. After pointing it out, the cs guy was calculating the difference when I mentioned that I should get the full refund. He said that they do have a policy like that but it doesnt apply to special promotion. A little bit of arguing where I mentioned that such a amendment is not there in any other store. He insisted and said that I can check with head office about this giving me the phone number. At this point I was too tired to pursue it further with him or ask him to call the manager cos 1. its the store that i do my normal shopping at 2. I was sure that the manager was going to be more adamant about the policy. So had to leave the two items and get a full refund only.

Was absolutely gutted but was able to get 200 odd points since i used the club card for the transaction. Sent out another rant to the tesco by email mentioning this episode and that they should clarify their policy on this amendment to the promise.

Anyway - just wanted to let off some steam .....

you effectively admitted defeat. If you were tired you should have left wthout getting a refund and gone back the next day to continue your quest for justice. You should have got r+r.
  • Possibly, not a certainty, as the promotion could continue. Personally I hope they ditch the promotion all together. More hassle than its worth.

For that, you can blame the buyers... ;)

I would have fought for it if it wasnt for the fact that they have stuck a piece of paper right below the customer promise board saying that "it is not effective on items on promotion". I could have fought and fought but as long as they say that tesco policy has been changed to this I cant do anything can I ?

Actually, as far as i know they are not breaking any laws by putting this qualification as they are refund the full amount or difference for the overcharge - only you dont get to keep the product. Like I said, I have complained to head office about this one week ago and they still have not got back to me with an answer
