  • Refund and Retain.

Forgive me for not reading through the previous 600 or so postings, but are you saying that if you go to purchase an item and that item when scanned by the operator is dearer than the price either shown on the product or the shelf - you get the item for free, if so where do you action the request, at the till or at the customer service desk -

That's exactly right. You ask for the R+R at the CS desk, but sometimes a little gentle persuasion is required to remind them of their policy. There will be a blue board on the wall somewhere with "Our Promise" at the top - read the last paragraph to them if they try to only refund the difference.

Thanks for that - it will mean a whole new experience in future shopping at Tesco

    MUNT & Taxi phil.

Your, both right in a way, I can see why u think its fraud, but, in a dog eat dog world, what are the rules ? Eat them b4 they eat u ?

Tesco overcharge all day long, if they can't be !!!!d to update the prices then they can't blame customers for checking to "make sure they are correct"

Is it illegal to print up your own sels ? Tesco do it, and !!!! it up all the time,
is that illegal ? Or legal ? Don't know myself.

Re proving dishonesty on the part of Tesco, would be very difficult, simply because they have deeper pockets.

Proving they have a problem with accurate pricing is no problem, this thread is full of them. Guess its down to if it is on purpose or not.

Well if you know you have a well documented problem then shouldn't you (Tesco) do something about it ?

Have I reported misprices to T ? Yes at the CS desk while getting RR.

Didn't mean any offence with my post.

Last off, I think people are generating loads of free advertising for Tesco,
so as a shareholder, I should be upset because its negative publicity.

But you no what they say, everylittle helps, and when Divi time comes round, i'll say thank you very much, then use the divi to buy more shares in Tesco :)

  • One more piece of info missing - how do you actually know Tesco would charge you a higher price than that displayed either on the item or on the SEL - is it a case of using their in store self scan units ? - and is one to assume if it scans on the self scan higher price, then that is the price it will scan at the tills. So in other words do I need to self scan all my groceries first before going to the checkout !

Ben, I usually agree with most things you say, but anyone who has ever taken any electrical item back to tesco under warranty has too choices: either replacement if still available, of else full refund of the price paid.

As the price paid is now nil because of R&R, I don't see what else you you expect them to do IF they no longer stock the item.

As for taking your claim to the manufacturer, most will deal with you. However, as you know the SOGA means that your contract is with the retailer and so the manufacturer does not have to deal with the problem if it does not want to. (This actually happened to me once where the retailer had gone bust and the manufacturer refused to help because the retailer owed them a shed load of money when they went down.)

  • Actually, Frequent, I asked if you've ever reported a misleading price indication to Trading Standards, not Tesco. There's a world of difference between what Mcdonag says he is going to do and what Tesco does. Mcdonag has intent, for starters. His actions would be dishonest and it would lead to him gaining a pecuniary advantage by deception. That is a criminal offence under the Theft Act 1968.

Must learn to read properly, sorry MUNT, answered wrong question.

Have been tempted to talk with TS b4, was working at a petrol station and knew the owners had rigged the pumps to rip off the customers.

Then when they explained the onus and burden would be on me to gather evidence and prove everything, I couldn't be !!!!d ( y i no lazy git, no morales etc).

To be honest, I think they are just as toothless as the oher so called enforcement agencies, the FSA is even more usless.

I honestly think that TS can't do a damn thing to Tesco's.

That's exactly my point. TS won't do anything unless the offence is repeated after being pointed out to the store in question. There's no point going on about £2k fines per item, as it rarely happens. However, Mcdonag is talking about committing a criminal offence that can easily be proven. CCTV footage in the store will show him siting the leaflets he obtained from another store, then buy a phone and try to obtain a refund for being overcharged due to incorrect or misleading price indications (i.e. the leaflets he placed in the store). There is something Tesco can do - call the police and have him prosecuted for deception.

You can't really go on about the moral crusade against Tesco unless you've actively tried to get TS involved. If you're merely taking advantage of the R&R policy, you've no leg to stand on when you shout about how Tesco is ripping people off. The moral thing to do would be to report them to TS.
