Yes..... I'm back...... after a few beers !!!

Only too glad to see that me input ealier has at the very least provoked some serious mind searching !!!!

Glad to see that some of you "get the point".... contrary to a few apparant opinions, I am not actually against "saving" a few quid... In fact, I quite like the idea !!...... but what I do find difficult is that when we see a "loophole"( for want of a better term ), that we choose to exploit it.... leaving ourselves open to criticism.... and then boast about it on here !

I support getting R & R when "they" get it wrong.... but do we actually really need to EXPLOIT it ... after all, someone has to pay in the end..... don't we ????

    (Another thought provoking thesis............. )
You flatter yourself unduly the discussion was here long before you arrived, as for myself no mind searching let alone serious, as for your latest "theory" No we don't we get if for free that's the whole object of the excercise, the overcharging is black profit and does not affect pricing strategies if it diminishes

  • It seems the official word from the Tesco legal Dept is that the R+R is only on the game, that is it.
Now with people still getting R+R's on the package TODAY makes me even more determined to get the Money back, Trading standards are going ahead with my complaint, I have to pop into the office on Monday to take them my reciept and the SEL I have. Lets hope they deal with it promptly
In which case, the POS is misleading. It read "Save £10 when you buy an Xbox 360/PS2 & Game". It is misleading due to the use of an ampersand. "And" implies that the saving is on both the console and the game. Any reasonable person would interpret the POS as such, and not think the discount applies only to the game. If it were just on the game, the POS would read something like "£20 off the Game of the Week when bought with an Xbox 360/PS2".

EDIT: Just seen what it says on the receipt when the discount is actually applied. "Xbox + Game"...reads to me like it's a saving on the bundle, not the game alone. Can't see how Tesco's legal bods have managed to come up with their "it's on the game only" excuse, as that won't stand up to scrutiny from ASA.

Well, lets put it this way - its illegal for Tesco to advirtise misleading information, and charge something other than whats advirtised, so when we point that out, and get a R+R, thats makes us shoplifters?

I see nothing wrong with R+R, if Tescos didn't want people claiming R=Rs, perhaps they'd actually bother getting people to check the POS and SEL frequently, which it appears they are not doing, and the consoles are still being mispriced in many stores.

  • I think Tesco's are arguing that the console by itself is not wrongly priced, but with the addition of the game the discount does not come off the game. I can see their point

    Hi

The Xbox 360 with Saints Row scanned correctly in my local store last night, didn't think to say I'd left my card in the car so just went ahead with the sale but will return it today.

Well before you do that, can you please scan a copy of the reciept? That would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks in advance

Same happened to me yesterday at one store. I just said I'd changed my mind as it was scanning through. You can see the £20 discount applied as it scans at the checkout. It comes off the game. I also tried another store who I'm quite angry with now. They told me the reason it didn't scan was because I'd not bought game of the week (Prey was on the shelves there). I asked what game of the week was and they said it wasn't in stock. Having found out what game of the week is now, I know they lied to me. But I guess they've taken down all the stickers by now.

Yes, they have to have an Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence and it must be visible at all times to the public.

Most of the 'security' I see in tesco do not have their licence displayed and I would challenge anyone who doesn't because they have possibly not got one.

I know loads of 'security guards' who are not actually qualified guards as such, they have completed their training but are awaiting their licence from the SIA. They can only be employed as security guards if they are employed by an approved SIA contractor. At the time of writing, Tesco, is not an approved contractor. So they must be being paid by a security firm that is.

Furthermore, I know of a few tesco guards who have not completed the training at all and as such are in effect working illegally and do not have authority to apprehend or arrest. There is one of these working in Harford Bridge, Norwich as I write.

If I am approached by security, the first thing that I ask is can I see their SIA licence if they fail to provide it, then they have no legal authiority over you.

I’m going to try to stay out of the whole theft/fraud dispute but there’s always one little misconception I have to put straight. With a very small exception 95% of Tesco stores employ ‘in-house’ security officers. This means we are managed and operated by Tesco and exempt from licensing. SIA licensing only applies to contacted security where services are contracted out to a third-party.

Security also have the same legal powers of arrest as any citizen. Not having a license does not mean you can’t take action towards people committing an offence.

    Morning Dudes.

Can I suggest that we all simply ignore the pathetic posts from wind-up merchants such as SecondClass?

If you rise to the bait - it only encourages the children to keep posting here.

If you ignore them, they'll go back to playing in the sand-pit.
